Best Buy To Sell Rebranded Clearwire Service
Best Buy Connect brand to expand from 3G to 4G in 2011
by Karl Bode Friday 30-Jul-2010 tags: business · wireless
In its first partnership extending beyond wholesale agreements with major cable companies like Time Warner Cable and Comcast, Clearwire has announced they're now allowing Best Buy to rent space on the Clearwire network so they can also sell their own 4G services. Earlier this month we noted how Best Buy had already struck a deal with Sprint to resell wireless phone and EVDO service under the "Best Buy Connect" brand. According to the Best Buy and Clearwire announcement, the actual 4G service won't be available at Best Buy until 2011. Best Buy pricing is fairly standard -- though Best Buy hopes to make their offers compelling by offering subsidized netbook and other hardware deals to subscribers.

Cool

hopefully that also means the coverage area will expand.

Re: Cool

Yes, I like seeing all these companies lining up to buy space on Clearwire (Sprint), since the more interest in it the more likely it is to expand farther and farther.

Clear better be kicking it into high gear if they want to stay ahead of Verizon / LTE!

Re: Cool

These partnerships are the only hope Clear has of surviving. Their stand-alone performance has been miserable.

Re: Cool

Yeah, they may be picking up subscribers somewhat, but until they get their service area deployed far and wide, and iron out any connection issues their users are having, they won't be capturing a very big market share...

And I want them to succeed, since Cleveland is on their list of market deployments for 2010. It would be great to have a viable alternative to TW sooner rather than later!

I'm told by the local sprint corporate rep for government that Albany will have 4G by around Christmas. Sprint will be doing a big push of 4g into tertiary markets even and recharging the lineup with 4G phones.

Actually they will put 4G repeaters on each store

That's good than it should spread 4G faster than how clearwire currently is developing

No. Don't put them on the BB stores. They need to do it with WalMart. Walmart has a store in almost every town! that would be the best way to expand. hell i'm surpised walmart doesn't own a tower company by now.

Lame

What's the point of this service? This is just the same crappy caps and the same prices with essentially less coverage. If I was a data service customer for a real provider why would I even consider this option?

Re: Lame

There is no cap at the present time on Clear 4G. Service is pretty damn stable as well (where there is coverage of course).

Re: Lame

The links in the article summary clearly specify a 5GB cap.

Re: Lame

Then that's best buy. You get it from Sprint, and there is no cap.

What's the value add?

These data MVNOs provide no additional benefit than getting straight from Clear or Sprint... or do they? I don't see a benefit with BB. Actually it looks like there is a 5GB limit, so why go with BB?

Sounds like this one will be Disney/ESPN MVNO all over again.

That's for the 3g offering on sprint not clearwire.

So much for Clear resellers, huh?

Too bad for the resellers who worked to get the product established in these markets only to give it up to the big box stores once it became more lucrative.

what resellers? The only resellers that Clear has are their cable partners and now Best Buy.

thinking about it

long time comcast for tv/internet but their rate hikes are insulting. thinking about dumping comcast for clear.

A thought about Clearwire

I had one, but I would not recommend 4G for on the go, unless you stop at parks or anywhere else where you are not moving. Otherwise you constantly loose connections at hand offs between towers when you commute (like commuter train).

I soon gave it up because that was not making sense for me to pay $40 each month and only use it actually once a week, and not being able to use it daily on the train. majority of time I use Internet at home (no and standalone home service from Clear is not an option for me). I'll ocasionally use free wifi anywhere at starbucks or barns and noble if I need to go on the internet while I am away.

Besides who likes to take notebook or netbook everywhere? In these situations just a smart-phone will meets most needs with Internet access. I am getting iPhone
