www.examiner.com/article/index.c···bobbiesS.F. AIRPORT -- Flushed with excitement about embarking on a seven-week transcontinental cycling challenge, four British police officers, known affectionately as "bobbies" in England, landed Thursday at San Francisco International Airport.
The bobbies -- Simon Wrigglesworth and Nick Morgan of Fareham, Paul Rowsell of Gosport and Alan Hockley of Southsea -- begin their 3,700-mile biking marathon from San Francisco to New York on Friday.
Although all agreed that climbing the Rockies and tackling the United States' deserts and plains wouldn't be easy, all said the trip would be "good fun" for a great cause.
The cyclists, police officers with the Fareham Police Station of Hampshire, England, have taken on what they call the "Rainbow Challenge" to raise money for their hometown chapter of The Rainbow Centre. Their goal: raise $45,000 for children with cerebral palsy.
