Wireless helmets to help secure RNC
(old news - 03:28PM Friday Aug 27 2004)
tags: hardware
Roughly two hundred police officers securing the Republican National Convention next week will be outfitted with wireless helmets. The helmets, according to NewsDay, will record what homeland security officers see, then transmit encrypted streams via satellite to both a control center and specially built palm pilots. The technology will allow each service commander to see first hand which parts of the city will need help dealing with protesters.

Sad...

Hmmmm... Don't mean to bash here too much, but there was no need for riot gear when Dems met, but now Republicans get together and there will be problems. Dems are less protested than Republicans - make your own conclusions.

I just hope all of us here will get off our geeky asses and go vote.

So? The Bushies have been doing that for all their meetings...they invented the "free speech zones".

That said, I really don't quite get the need for WiFi helmets...the Republicans lock up all their non-supporters in designated areas 7-9 miles away from the event. Let 'em go nuts behind the chain link and razor wire. :P

It wasn't 7 to 9 miles who ever told you that is lieing. The area they were in was about 2 miles away max. I drive that route every day to and from work.

Oh come on, for lords sakes without taxes you wouldn't even have the means to post that remark. Without taxes there's no money for the corporate welfare to pay for that broadband network you aren't paying didly squat for. Without taxes there is no money for the teachers that taught you how to use the computer in the first place. Without taxes there is no money to pay for the police in the streets, your 911 service, the water that comes out of your tap, the concrete or asphalt in front of your house, the road you drive to work on....... i would hope you can keep connecting the dots. One person can't create a country as fine as ours, it needs to be a team effort. Therefore taxes have to rise right along with the cost of living or our country's most important assets do not get paid well enough to do their jobs correctly and have a happy life.

I wished Howard Dean would have made the primaries, but I will be damned if it's my fault we have another four years of this crap.

You should've gone over and lived in Iraq while Hussein was still in power for a few months and then come back and say it's an unjust war. Christ, if America was as full of pansies as it is today back in the 1940's, Hitler would probably still be ruling most of Europe!

What exactly is the difference between a "just" and an "unjust" war?

Are you saying the president acted without the authority of the congress? Or are you saying the US should should surrender sovereignty to the UN?

At the risk of being off topic, Republican protesters were peaceful at the DNC, which is why they weren't noticed. Marxist protesters prefer anarchy. You draw your own conclusions.

Re: Sad...

Here's how to tell if you're a "good" Democrat:

1. You have to believe that the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of federal funding.

2. You have to believe that the same teacher who can't teach 4th-graders how to read is somehow qualified to teach those same kids about sex.

3. You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding Americans are more of a threat than U.S. nuclear weapons technology in the hands of Chinese & North Korean communists.

4. You have to believe that there was no art before Federal funding.

5. You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical, documented changes in the earth's climate and more affected by soccer moms driving SUVs.

6. You have to believe that gender roles are artificial but being homosexual is natural.

7. You have to be against capital punishment but support abortion on demand..

8. You have to believe that businesses create oppression, and governments create prosperity.

9. You have to believe that hunters don't care about nature, but loony activists who have never been outside of San Francisco do.

10. You have to believe that self-esteem is more important than actually doing something to earn it.

11. You have to believe that the military, not corrupt politicians, start wars.

12. You have to believe the NRA is bad because it supports certain parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good because it supports certain parts of the Constitution.

13. You have to believe that taxes are too low, but ATM fees are too high.

14. You have to believe that Margaret Sanger and Gloria Steinem are more important to American history than Thomas Jefferson, Gen. Robert E.Lee, and Thomas Edison.

15. You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial quotas and set-asides are not.

16. You have to believe that Hillary Clinton is normal and really a very nice person.

17. You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn't worked anywhere it's been tried is because the right people haven't been in charge.

18. You have to believe conservatives telling the truth belong in jail, but a liar and sex offender belonged in the White House.

19. You have to believe that homosexual parades displaying drag, transvestites, and bestiality should be constitutionally protected, and manger scenes at Christmas should be illegal.

20. You have to believe that illegal Democratic Party funding by the Chinese government is somehow in the best interest of the United States.

21. You have to believe that this letter is part of a right wing conspiracy.

22. You truly believe that George "W" Bush and Dick Cheney are personally involved in the distribution of this e-mail.

That's because it's NYPD, they don't take chances with anyone. If the Dems has their convention in NYC, they would be doing the same. It's not just about people being roudy, but also the spectre of terrorism is on the minds of those administrating security for the residents and visitors of New York City during this high profile event.

Sleep Tonight, You're Safe

I wonder how they patrol the streets when they need 200 COPS just to keep Madison Square Garden (RNC Arena) safe. I wonder, how many cops do they have for us average New Yorker's and Jersey people? If you answered far less, you hit the nail on the head. The truth is they don't give a crap about us Average Joe's.... But when the big rich politicians come to town, they have 200 cops patrolling a small area. If only they worked this hard to patrol the rest of New York, I wouldn't be asked to buy crack 5 times while I walked in a park on a Sunday afternoon.

that's because there isn't a huge incentive for someone to murder you or i or anyone else, even if a thousand of us are in the same room.

there is an incentive for someone to murder all those delegates.

the story i read on yahoo today (edit: from AP, my mistake) said something around 10,000 NYC police out of 37,000 total would be patrolling during the convention. in addition to postal service police, EPA police, secret service, MTA police, amtrack security and lord knows who else.

Bionic commandos?!?

Strapping a helmet cam to a cop makes them a "bionic commando"? C'mon...

it's great the video is being recorded... incase of an incident by either party (cops, protestors, or even 'terrorists').

But, I hope they take the helmet off before going to the washroom. LOL

.......

It scares me to think what will happen to my country if Kerry gets elected.

Just read some of this,

He voted to Kill the Bradley Fighting Vehicle
He voted to Kill the M-1 Abrams Tank
He voted to Kill every Aircraft carrier laid down from 1988
He voted to Kill the Aegis anti aircraft system
He voted to Kill the F-15 strike eagle
He voted to Kill the Block 60 F-16
He voted to Kill the P-3 Orion upgrade
He voted to Kill the B-1
He voted to Kill the B-2
He voted to Kill the Patriot anti Missile system
He voted to Kill the FA-18
He voted to Kill the F117
He voted to kill every military appropriation for the development and deployment of every weapons system since 1988, including a bill for battle armor for our troops.

It is most likely, with Sen. John Kerry as President and Commander in Chief of our Armed Services, that they will cease to function. Making it impossible for our country to protect itself.

John Kerry voted to kill all anti-terrorism activities of each and every agency of the U.S. Government.
He voted to cut the funding for the FBI by 60%,
He voted to cut the funding for the CIA by 80%,
He voted to cut the funding for the NSA by 80%.

You don't believe me? Voting history can be accessed through Senate voting records.

Attention MODS

I guess BBR is run by a bunch of morons who have no concept of the First Amendment. The First Amendment guarentees the right to free speech in any public forum. By making this site PUBLIC, it is a PUBLIC FORUM. Meaning that anybody can say whatever the hell they want here without fear of it being removed or tampered with. Do not remove any more of my posts or there will be problems.

Don't like? Don't make the site a public forum.

Well, if you've already seen »»Site FAQ »What are the Rules on Posting? then you have your answer. But if you didn't, here's a typical whine by a misguided anonymous poster in one of our forums:

"I'll post whatever I want. This is a public website with public forums. These arbitrary rules are bullshit that some dweeb thought up to stroke himself over. Free speech is a right under the Constitution's Bill Of Rights, and any publicly accessible website that hosts forums is just that, public, and subject to all the laws and rights granted to citizens of the United States."

Well, you have been a member here for a whole month and I must say you are making a hell of great first impression!

Since you are obviously either a Democrat or a product of our most excellent public school system, you can be forgiven for not knowing that the First Amendment only protects you from government censorship...it does not give you the right to say anything anywhere. It also makes no distinctions between public and private forums.

DSLR is privately owned/operated website, not a government agency. They can kick you out for any reason, or no reason. It's their bandwidth and they have the right to control what goes on here.

Since you think this place is wall-to-wall morons, I'd suggest you take your high IQ and truck on outta here...start a blog or open up your own website and then you can yap all you want about whatever you want. I'm sure the world is waiting breathlessly to be enlightened by your superior intellect.

Your brain will get more oxygen if you pull your head out of your ass.

Have a nice day,

Actually you've got it 100% bassackwards ... this is not a PUBLIC forum - BBR is privately owned and operated, and you're basically a guest in the site owner's house.

As for the First Amendment - please read again for understanding. Here, I'll save you the trouble of looking it up:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Note that it says that Congress shall make no law... - and we sure as heck aren't congress. Read the site's TOS next time - that's our 'constitution'.
