Blackberry Outage Hits Europe, Middle East
Appears Resolved, No Explanation
by Karl Bode Friday 21-Sep-2012 tags: business · wireless · trouble · wireless
Just as Apple was doing what it does best (product launch hype), RIM was busy doing what it currently does best: screwing up and suffering an outage. Reuters notes that the company's Blackberry services suffered a significant outage today across Europe, the Middle East & Africa. The company says the outage has since been resolved, but failed to offer an explanation for what caused it. The timing of the outage was obviously poor, given that in the shadow of the iPhone and Android battle the company is trying to forget last years multi-day full service outage -- the worst in company history.

Re: Research in Motion

A lot of businesses still use BlackBerry. The phone is mainly made for small and large business enviroment users.

Apparently small and large business environment users just really need those outages.

who are slowly leaving RIM as the outages are showing its just not reliable.

Windows Phone could be the final nail in the RIM coffin, It will likely allow full interaction with active directory and full corporate network polices.

Re: Research in Motion

yes yes and yes. WP8 will cause corporations to retract these shitty BYOD policies because a proper replacement has surfaced.

@rr.com
Its so bad I'm looking to get 40 used Iphone 3GS or 4s to replace the 8530s and 8330s I have now. Even a 3GS is superior for my users.

Blackberry who?

Even our midcap company took the switch and only official supports ios and android devices. They dropped Blackberry and Windows Mobile at the beginning of the year. It was an extremely easy decision.

Ummmm

Forgive my question, is RIM a service provider for the blackberries?
I've never had one. On my smart phone AT&T is the provider, I punched n my hotmail credidetials and get mail via pop3. And web searches just go over wifi. So how does a blackberry work? Why is there outages that can affect the handsets?
