(old news - 03:52PM Thursday Nov 11 2004)
tags: Video · business
Broadband has allowed an explosion in the number of video-ads bombarding surfers, companies spending $77-million on on-line video ads last year. That number is expected to increase fivefold to reach $657 million by 2009, whether you like them or not. And according to ad industry insiders in this Globe and Mail article, you really do like them.

I don't like them

Especially when you have to wait for it to load a java applet or have to download some strange plug in. Plus if I am surfing at night I don't like to have to find the control to turn them down so I won't wake up those who sleep.

It works like this, don't install any video playing controls for the browser.

Re: I don't like them

Truth be told, I don't. I do however have Java installed on my system and have I have Flash also. And since that is what a lot of the videos use I am up the creek unless I either unistall them or block all flash/shockwave objects and all java applets.

If you are using Firefox, install the FlashBlock plugin:
»flashblock.mozdev.org/

This plug stops the Flash file from playing and puts a placeholder with a play button in the center. If you want to see the animation, just click inside the placeholder.

I don't pay my ISP to see AD's. The same reason I don't watch TV any longer.

Re: WRONG

I'm, thankfully, not among them, but some people do actually like watching commercials. I think it could possibly be diagnosed as some sort of mental condition.

Annoying, but not spam-serious

On the bright side, they haven't figured out how to send these multimedia ads to our mailboxes.

Yet.

The researcher who said we like them is a dumbass

Seriously how can anyone like them? I find them annoying and get pissed off so often because of them. Any researcher who says we like them is a complete idiot and deserves to get shot for being so stupid.:D
