Time Warner Cable probably agrees...

Comcast should be applauded for their decision to quickly deploy DOCSIS 3.0 technology, having just passed 50% of their footprint. Unfortunately, most other cable carriers seem to be in a "wait and see" mode when it comes to the technology, which is usually code for the fact they face either slow DSL or little competition in their markets. While Comcast and Cablevision are deploying DOC 3.0 like mad, gearmaker Broadcom doesn't see the technology really taking off until next year. "I do believe we were seeing a continued move over to Docsis [3.0]," Broadcom CEO Scott McGregor. "That's more of a next-year phenomenon."

Re: i will believe when i see it

Well "s" suffix, like 2010s, usually means the whole decade. Though to me docsis 3 for TW by 2019 seems doubtful.

Correction: The suffix "s" as in "2010s" means the whole decade. The use of an apostrophe makes the word a contraction (an alias) so "2010's" is the equivalent of "2010 is."

Comcast made the right choice of upgrading to Docsis 3.0 sooner and I am enjoying the Extreme Speed.

Once? Did rob316 forget what was before FIOS/FTTH? Comcast or any cable internet versus DSL - just incase you forgot the past...Cable internet is faster and more reliable than DSL.

Heh. Knowing them, they're brainstorming pre D4 specs right now.

It's definitely conceivable that a DOCSIS 4.0 spec will come around, I doubt by 2011, but I think there is a strong possibility that deploying fiber deeper may become the preference for many MSOs.
