Tom Hsiao, the newly appointed president of Motorola Electronics Taiwan, promised to implement Motorolas successful experience in promotion of handset sales in the Taiwan market to other product segments. During a recent interview with DigiTimes, Hsiao vowed to further integrate Motorolas resources to build the vendors local branch into a one-stop shop for telecommunications services. Excerpts of that interview are as follows:
Q: Under your leadership the performance of the personal mobile communications division at Motorola Taiwan was very strong. What will you do to extend this success to other departments?
A: Personal mobile communications (mobile phones) currently accounts for about 85% of Motorola Taiwans revenues, but we aim to expand the market share in other segments. Our networking infrastructure department recently secured orders from 3G service provider Vibo Telecom and the enterprise/government mobile solution division has participated in a number of major government bids. We expect revenues contributed from other department will increase substantially.
In addition to cable modems and set-top boxes, our home networking lineup includes digital TVs, DVD players and amplifiers. We will try to introduce those consumer products into the local market through our handset channel.
