CISPA 'Dead' in Senate
Though Other Awful 'Cybersecurity' Efforts Loom

CISPA last week passed the House by a vote of 288 to 187 courtesy of oodles of lobbying cash from the likes of Cisco, Verizon, AT&T, and Intel, who all desire the protections the bill gives them for privacy violations. However, Senator Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., the chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, this week stated that CISPA in its current form is essentially dead in the Senate because it lacks adequate consumer privacy safeguards.

"Staff and senators are divvying up the issues and the key provisions everyone agrees would need to be handled if we're going to strengthen cybersecurity," insists Rockefeller. "They'll be drafting separate bills."

In other words, we'll now see a flood of new "cybersecurity" bills without the heavy political baggage "CISPA" has accumulated over the last few years. While Obama has promised a veto of CISPA under the pretense of privacy concerns, details emerged this week suggest what the administration really wants is a cybersecurity bill that helps protect the government legally for its immunity promises to ISPs helping spy on American citizens.

Congress is not anyone

What you and I think is not relevant to the Congress.

It's dead..... like a zombie

In it's current form it's dead....... they are just going to chop it up into more palatable pieces and resurrect them all...... and then more than likely attach them to bills that have to get passed.... just like they always do.....

Sadly, I think you are right. Just attach them to some anti child porn bill that no one will dare to oppose and it will pass under the guise of "won't someone think of the children?"

hmmm

Government tries to advance government protection to a corporation. Is that even legal? What kind of doors would that open?

It will Pass

This is the US and it will pass whether in 2 or 3 bills,it will pass and be combined later into 1 bill where no one needs to vote on it.

Re: It will Pass

well any thing gets passed in the US government when the right bills are applied. Sadly the bills that make things happen are not bill in the political definition but bill as in the green kind, usually lots of them with an image of Benjamin Franklin.
