Cablevision Launching 'Net Based DVR Management
Appears to be part of a staggered launch...
by Karl Bode Monday 17-Aug-2009 tags: business · cable · Cablevision
An anonymous birdie in our Cablevision forum claims that Cablevision will soon be releasing a DVR management portal on the optimum.net home page. The new functionality will allow Cablevision DVR users to schedule recordings and delete content on their home DVRs from anywhere there's a 'Net connection. Some users are already seeing the functionality in the portal (there's some GUI tweaks afoot as well), though availability seems inconsistent among users suggesting deployment is being staggered across markets. We contacted Cablevision, but the company wasn't willing to comment on the new system.

Wish the TWC and Comcast would get on board with this.

It appears that comcast will eventually. Already testing it. (Not active for most people)

It was discussed in the comcast tv forum here before. Check that forum occasionally to see if it ever launches.

Agreed, I was merely stating the obvious. I'm good at that.

Bigger yawn, ReplayTV was able to do this years before Tivo.

Now if only CC would start moving a little faster on their implementation.

Not a innovation for advanced users but it more easier for crowd.

I think it's cool

as a cablevision user with a dvr I think it's pretty cool, I've never felt like putting out the extra money for a tivo and then hassle with cablecards.

this gives much needed functionality to my dvr. I don't watch a whole lot of tv and the cablevision dvr is ok for my uses

A much needed feature

I have it now and love it. The Web DVR feature also includes an improved search feature with a keyword search. All CV customers should get it in the next few weeks. Apparently the Web DVR feature is only for CV customers who have both a DVR and Optimum Online for now.

Other use?

Anyone not think there may be another, sinister angle to this functionality? Like, deleting content off your DVR if the cableco thinks there is a potential copyright infringement.

Yes, it's probably remote but stranger things have happened.

Re: Other use?

It seems odd that a DVR would have a potential infringement on it, wouldn't all the recordings come from the cable company's own service?

Re: Other use?

there is not any infringement on CableVision's DVR.
