Reasonable discourse was his kryptonite
(old news - 02:51PM Monday Feb 05 2007)
tags: legal · Fileswapping · business · content
In the United States, the MPAA has used copyright crusading ferrets and roleplaying in U.S. classrooms to teach kids about intellectual property. The programs have been heavily criticized for teaching only the company perspective, and not informing kids about things such as fair use or DRM-free business models. In Canada it was "Captain Copyright" -- though their project ran into trouble when Internet users noticed that the website lifted certain content from Wikipedia, and there was already a Captain Copyright in Singapore. Now Boing Boing points out that they've decided to scrap the Captain Copyright idea, because "the current climate around copyright issues will not allow a project like this one to be successful."

It sounds like something kids of future generations will dig up on some video sharing service and laugh, like we laugh at those old "duck and cover" PSAs.

What a sad world we live in:

We use our still emerging technologies to intentionally degrade and restrict people from having access to something that is supposed to be a symbol of our culture and freedom. Life is too short to waste time worrying about copyright issues and repressive restrictions. Musicians should be flattered that people are willing to waste their time listening to their work! Instead, we use music and video as a toll-booth to suck money from people.

Now these big corporations and organizations are using that money and power to brainwash the next generation into thinking their ideology is the only way forward. Blah.

Humans are greedy, selfish, and stupid: Simply look at our president: a lying, hillbilly, Southern Capitalist. I wish I was born 100 years in the future, when technology will truly be reliable and consumer friendly....

Or will it ever?

Maybe his name should have just been Captain Copy since he himself seems to have been lifted from so many places.

As I Always Say: "WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN??"

Oh Dear -

Where shall the children turn for distorted information now?

Who will tell them that Fair Use is a CRIME?

Who will educate them on the delights of Sony Rootkit DRM??

Good riddance to bad rubbish...

Nah, you've got to say it in it's most hilarious reading..

'Won't someone PLEEASE think of the children!?!?' The please is an extra bit of comedy gold ...

If there is anything that should convince people DRM is bad, just look at this article. The folks who support it are copying from other folks, yet don't get punished for it....

Yet Joe Blow copies one music CD and gets fined for millions. Go figure....

Don't worry most school teachers cannot even teach the basics. What makes you think they will be able to pass this along to the kids.

How difficult is it to teach kids that stealing is a crime?

This ain't rocket science.

Anyone with a clue knows that stealing is a crime and specifically that Piracy is the theft of copyright protected works. It ain't difficult to teach kids that stealing and Piracy are crimes and wrong.

What's difficult is for adults to rationalize theft of copyright protected works. That is simply impossible to do yet those in denial continue to try unsuccessfully. There is no FREE USE of copyright protected works. You are only entitled to use copyright protected works in a very specific manner once you purchase the rights. Misleading people with gibberish and B.S. does not make it fact or law.

No honest law abiding citizen supports stealing or Piracy so get over it. The judicial system is not going to change to allow theft of copyright protected goods. Denial doesn't change reality.

This and a bottle of hand cream is all Taylor Troll needs for a date.

Mr. Methane

I WILL KILL YOU!

You can see what the problem was. Captain Copyright was being confused for Mr. Methane. So The RIAA/MPAA has decided the next spokesman will be Ren the Asthmatic Chihuahua, in the new I AM GOING TO KILL YOU" anti bootlegging campaign
