CenturyLink Offers $10 Broadband
To Low Income Homes As Savvis Acquisition Condition

To get their acquisition of NBC approved by regulators, Comcast volunteered a condition that would have them delivering $10 broadband to low income homes. Comcast insiders tell us the condition isn't particularly demanding on Comcast, as many applicants don't make the cut. Applicants have to qualify for the National School Lunch Program, can't have an outstanding balance, and can't currently have or have had service in the last 90 days. Following on the heels of Comcast CenturyLink is also offering $10 broadband as a condition of their recent $3.2 billion acquisition of Savvis. The offer provides users with 1.5 Mbps DSL service for $10 if the home qualifies for Lifeline Affordable Telephone Service in their state.

Savvis condition?

Sure that this wasn't a Qwest acquisition condition? AFAIK Savvis had nothing to do with any standard wireline services and thus wouldn't really matter acquisition-wise in this case.

Re: Savvis condition?

The article missed the fact that there is more than just the one program that will gt you the green light from cl for service, per CLs own site if you qualify for their low income tele you are qualifyed for HSI at 10 bucks. One of the ways listed on their site is the SNAP program or food stamps, you don't have to have kids for that program
