'Nothing to share at this point...'
(old news - 09:06AM Wednesday Sep 26 2007)
tags: business · bandwidth · cable
Charter Vice President of Investor Relations and Communications Mary Jo Moehle tells us that the company has launched a 16Mbps/2Mbps tier in some markets, but wouldn't confirm or deny our report that a suite of new broadband tiers is slated for a November launch. "We will continue to evaluate expanding the 16 Mbps offer to additional markets, although we do not have specific launch plans to share at this point," says Moehle. Keep your eye on this thread in our Charter forum for the latest from Charter users.

I have the 10/1 package in Riverside, CA. I rarely dip below my rated speed, and if I do, it's still rare to see less than 8mb/s. Charter has been amazingly-reliable for me; surprising given some of the past reviews for this area.

I'd be one of the first in line for a 16/2, I tell you what!

disconnected

No thanks.. I'll Stick with DSL

I think I'll stick with my DSL provider, which allows me to run my web server and enjoy FAR more benefits (such as reliable connection) than Charter ever did for me in the past.

Ya, happy to say I'm Charter-free at the moment. In Ft. Worth, they block VPN traffic unless you have a Charter Business Class account. My VPN and tunnelling connections would shutdown after just a few seconds and kill my BitTorrent downloads. I was forced to switch to AT&T DSL. I later built my own Media Center PC and now watch HDTV over the air and all the stuff I watch on cable is downloaded via BT. If Charter were ever to stop blocking VPN traffic here for regular connections instead of exploiting people into a more expensive business connection... and brought the price down for a 16Mbps connection to a price close to what FiOS offers, I'd reconsider. That $80/month price has to be almost 2x what you'd pay for the same speed tier for FiOS... ya Charter you can match the speed but can you match the price? THAT'S being competitive.

Re: No thanks.. I'll Stick with DSL

First of all, you and I are in totally different franchises. The only thing in common the Charter here shares with the Charter in your neck of the woods is the name.

Secondly, I never said it was BitTorrent traffic I have an issue with. I said "they block VPN traffic"... I use a VPN tunnelling service in Sweden to hide my IP from the **AA. I started when I received my first warning letter when I was with Grande Communications over a year ago. Charter's Ft. Worth franchise blocks VPN traffic on residential accounts... I never said BitTorrent traffic. I confirmed this on my connection and 2 of my neighbor's connections. I was also told this was true when the Charter guy came out to disconnect me after I cancelled the service.

I'm not sure about Charter blocking VPN. I also live in Fort Worth and regularly use VPN from home. I have a Linksys point to point VPN that is always on, and I also frequently use Cisco's VPN client to connect to work remotely.

Charter = Outage in your area

If I could get a few days of uptime from charter I would be happy. Sick of all the excuses.

Charter Rules

Charter

I've had charter for almost a week and it's never the 10mbps speed I signed up for from about.. 8 AM - 12 AM. Though it seems from from 12 AM to 8 AM.. that's not the most convenient time for me to use my computer. I need them to step up or I'll probably just pick up a wireless signal from someone around me..

As I was typing, I went to grab a speedtest to post here and some crazy outage happened and I got a new IP? Maybe they fixed my connection? Lets hope so...
