Months after users started signing up for it...

Charter has been testing a 16Mbps/2Mbps tier in Texas since last year. While the company was shy about discussing it with us publicly, Charter phone techs spent much of the last year telling our users that the faster speed would be arriving any day now. Charter's new 16Mbps/2Mbps tier finally dropped in central Nebraska, portions of Missouri, and in Madison, Wisconsin last month. Charter's public relations team is only a few months behind reality, for the first time ever today issuing a press release acknowledging the tier's availability (but only in Wisconsin).

User discussion in our Charter forum indicates customers are paying drastically different prices depending on the competitiveness of their market; from $55 (non-promotional, no less) to $80.

Others say they're being offered 10Mbps for $35 for twelve months if they threaten to cancel. Some Madison-area customers say the 16Mbps tier is being offered there for $69.99 bundled, $79.99 standalone.

Re: You can get 10 meg for $25

I am paying $29.99 for 5mb hsi. I have cable and phone as well. If I ask to go for the $24.99 6 month promo. Would they do it and how much would it be after?

Re: You can get 10 meg for $25

Can you get the 10 meg for $25 even if you are already a customer? My 6 month promotional period ended a few months ago for my 5 meg service and would like to get this if I can for the promotional price. What do I need to tell them to get it? Thanks.

Re: You can get 10 meg for $25

Just wanted to let anyone know that was interested that I asked Charter for the $25 promotional price for 10/1 and they said that was for new customers only, but they did offer it for $35 for existing customers, which is still a pretty good deal so I got it.

I'm in St Cloud and just asked about the 16 on Friday and they said it's not out yet. I did get hooked up with 10meg for $25 for a full year though.

Re: Its in certain parts of Minnesota

I am in Northfield and as of last week it still was not available. They dropped my 10meg to 49.99 permanently and that 16 would be 59.99 which is what I was paying.

Shouldn't charter concentrate on providing what they aren't providing unhappy subs now before offering something else they cant even think of providing?

Re: Its in certain parts of Minnesota

I am a very happy with my service. I get 9.7/950 all the time with my 10MB. Why should I have to wait because someone else isn't have success which may or may not be Charters fault?

Who does the FIOS installations and repairs?

I am a technician in South Florida(former BellSouth territory-now AT&T's).
Who does the installations and repairs for Verizon's FIOS?
Is it done by Union represented techs or non-union represented techs?
Another question-does Verizon use premise techs(from NID to CPE) and facility techs(from NID to C.O.)? Or both?
I am VERY interested in knowing.
THANKS!
Sincerely, fellow Union represented tech in South Florida.

You may want to check the Verizon FiOS forum. This news article is about Charter Cable.

Why the discrepancies?

Blah.. man I'm getting screwed compared to some of you.

$89.99 for 10M and that's the best they will do.

Re: Why the discrepancies?

16 megs rolling out in St Louis Market this week. (signed up today)

WITHOUT a promotion, 16 megs is the same price as the "old" 10 meg. Some folks are getting a 6 month special for the 16megs for $49.99 (with other Charter services I believe).

16/2 modem caps are at:

16.777 megs-download
2.048 megs-upload.

Nice upgrade for the same price as the 10 megs or lower if on the 6 month special :

Thank you Charter!
