Charter Prepares for World IPv6 Day
Plans Full IPv6 Upgrade in 2012
by Karl Bode Tuesday 24-May-2011 tags: business · bandwidth · cable · networking · Charter
Some ISPs are more prepared for the IPV6 transition than others, with both Comcast and Verizon taking the lead. Not to be left out of the discussion, Charter today issued a press release noting that they're preparing to participate in World IPv6 Day on June 8, 2011. According to Charter, the company will be embracing full IPv6 deployment next year. "The adoption of IPv6 requires a joint effort by the worldwide networking community, and we enthusiastically join with our customers, peers, partners, suppliers and competitors in working together to make this a success," says the company. According to a CableLabs press release, Bright House Networks, Charter, Comcast, Cox, GCI and Time Warner Cable will all be participating in IPv6 trials for 24 hours on June 8.

Re: Hmmm

Yeah, hmm?

Some way or another, Charter will find a way to lag behind still.

That's completely irrelevant, especially from the perspective of providing services to business customers and government contracts.

Verizon is taking the lead? Hardly.

Actually, Verizon has 0 IPv6 trials, and 0 announced plans for any deployments, on its FIOS and DSL networks. You must be referring to their press release from last year announcing their successful test, which was purely smoke and mirrors. I'd expect them to be among the last to be ready, considering how far behind the curve Verizon Business, their backbone ISP, is on its deployments.

Road Runner

I've noticed Road Runner has multiple IPv6 ranges but I've seen no official announcements. I have noticed in Albany, NY IPv6 Addresses are given out, but I've not had a chance to test how well the service works or if it works at all.

Re: Road Runner

How have TW chosen to have "Addresses [sic] given out"? Are they doing RSes/RAs or requiring DHCPv6? And if the latter, are they doing/responding to INFOREQ or SOLICIT (or both)?

(I'm personally hoping I can set up something so that all my (Linux) hosts behind my router can continue to be connected through said router for firewalling, and preferrably some way I can continue to run radvd, or pass through RSes/RAs. I've tried using ISC's dhcrelay (for IPv4) with no success...although that could easily have been a conf error on my part.)

Jeopardy! replies and randomcaps REALLY suck!
