Cisco Sues Apple Over iPhone Name (old news - 06:12PM Wednesday Jan 10 2007) Tipped by ArchAngel21x
Cisco Systems Inc. said Wednesday it is suing Apple Inc. in federal court over Apple's use of Cisco's registered iPhone trademark for its new handheld device.
Cisco has owned the trademark on the name "iPhone" since 2000, when it acquired InfoGear Technology Corp., which originally registered the name.

Negotiations
The article said they had been in negotiations for the name before and apparently no agreement had been reached, so Apple decides to just use it anyway?? I can understand on one side because of Apples 'i' line, but it's still not right to infringe on a copyright. -- "Love is three-quarters curiosity." - Giacomo Casanova
Although it's treading on thin ice I think, Apple does have a few potential avenues to pursue. See »news.zdnet.com/2100-1040_22-6149···=nl.e622. Ultimately, I think they will come to an agreement though.
Just to clarify -- Cisco is accusing of infringing on its trademark -- not copyright. It's a subtle but important difference b/t the two.
