Cisco executives have been rather critical of WiMax over the years. "Ninety-eight per cent of the population of the developed world is going to be highly wired," said Cisco CTO Charles Giancarlo in 2005. "We do not think that fixed wireless for the last mile makes a lot of sense." Now it seems that Cisco's position is softening a little, and they're looking into WiMax gear. The company still has a white paper on their website explaining why they won't build WiMax base stations.

Wimax vs. "Whitespace"

Should be interesting how the "Whitespace" spectrum works out. If it's really as good as people say it is, should be better than Wimax, no?

Although in reality, I doubt we'll see any Whitespace broadband being provided in the next 3-5 years.
