It's enough to make Josef Dzhugashvili smile

Way back in time when I was in Junior high (middle school for you youngins) I had a Civics teacher who was an older man and an immigrant who escaped from Eastern Germany and eventually migrated to the US. He would go into stories about how in the old country one kept their papers in order and didn’t question government officials. In many of his tales there was a comment he often repeated and one that really stuck with me and it was one had to be careful when carrying a camera and what one took pictures of as the officials could become suspicious and that was not a good thing for one to do.

Well somewhere around 1989 a wall between East and West Germany was abandoned and eventually torn down but it seems someone has been gathering up the soul and intent of the Wall and is slowly but surely reassembling it in and around various parts of this country in the name of national (state) security.

Now we have photographers amateur and pro alike being given the evil-eye because their equipment looks too professional or their demeanor fits someone’s un-disclosable profile others are being asked for their permit (papers) and some have been detained for taking photographs of the wrong building or complex or attacked when they capture a shot of the wrong person or incident.

It’s enough to make Josef Dzhugashvili smile and praise our so called leaders for a job well done.
