Clear Pulls Plug On Trendy 'Rover' Prepaid Brand Company 'No Longer Selling Rover Plans and Services' Tipped by paule123
Back in August of last year, wireless broadband operator Clearwire unveiled a new prepaid mobile broadband service they dubbed "Rover." Rover was Clearwire's attempt at an ultra-sexy mobile broadband service (is there such a thing?) aimed primarily at a younger audience, offering users $5 daily, $20 weekly, and $50 monthly prepaid service without a contract -- using a $100 4G USB modem " Stick," or their $150 mobile 4G hotspot " Puck." The devices actually earned fairly high marks in gear reviews, assuming you made it past some of the eighth-grade level not-so-subtle sexual marketing innuendo. The sexy good times didn't last long however, as paule123 writes in to note that Clear is no longer taking Rover orders less than a year after the brand's debut. "We're sorry to say we're no longer selling Rover plans and services," says the website. "But here's the good news - you can get super fast 4G take-it-with-you internet from CLEAR." The pulled plug comes as Clearwire is experiencing some existential turbulence, recently seeing a significant number of high level executives abandon ship as the company shifts its focus from retail to wholesale.

Rover is gone. But Clear starts with $45 prepaid plan. Better price for monthly prepaid customers($45 instead of $50), but no way to try out or pay for shorter plans than a month. -- Record your speedtest.net results in DSLReports SpeedWave »www.speedtest.net/wave/afe201cb84d45c88

They think they are a real internet provider. To be fair they were considered in the results of internet providers ability to be able to stream Netflix with minor issues. Not saying I like them, just saying in general, and with that being said that puts them decently close to being able to compete with terrestrial broadband even if they are dead last

| Clear Just Signed Deal With Locus To Offer Prepaid Services I would wait for an official comment from clear about the state of there service offering. While it seems they may have ended the Rover brand, I am sure they probably have plans for their current subscribers.
Interestingly enough, they just signed a carrier deal with Lotus to offer prepaid services. So I would not be surprised if they are just getting out of the prepaid business and having Lotus take over for their current customers. You can find the entire story at

| | | lte phone service might as well become (or partner with) a mvno as well.. or resell Tracfone / Net10 over LTE. Why let Metro PCS have all the fun/profit. Or are they saving themselves for the Cale industry? | |

| Just got off a chat session with a Clear rep @ Clear.com He told me that although you can't start new service or buy devices through rover.com, if you already have a device, you can use the "re-up" option to add days. I don't know if you will still be able to add $5 1-day, $20 1-week, or $50 1-month terms to your account as I'm currently finishing up a 1 month term and not yet eligible to re-up according to my account page.
I have confirmed that you can no longer buy the stick, puck or hub.
I initially wanted to know if you could tie the rover devices to a clear service plan since it didn't make sense to buy new hardware. The Clear rep told me no, you have to use the "re-up" option through rover for now.
