Clearwire Launches In Salem, OregonAs well as in Milledgeville, Georgia 08:38AM Friday Oct 02 2009 by Karl Bodetags: business · wireless · ClearwireContinuing the company's promise to launch in 80 markets within eighteen months, Clearwire has launched their Mobile WiMax service in both Milledgeville, Georgia, and Salem Oregon. The launch comes on the heels of a slew of recent smaller market launches in Texas, that will obviously help the carrier test network performance and billing systems before moving on to bigger markets. As we were recently the first to report, Clearwire will officially launch Clear service in Chicago on October 6. As we also recently mentioned, there's a number of Clearwire customers in early launch markets that are complaining about service speed and latency. | Small Market, lol Lots of Luck in those SMALL markets. I am in a small market, Mount Vernon Wa. We have had the NEW 'Clear' for about two months. Its not very good. I had the the old 'Clearwire' for about 5 years and it was GREAT. In the two months nothing has changed. I believe they have written me off. I am too SMALL a market to fix it right.

| They're hedging their bets By deploying to smaller markets they can avoid tieing up any spectrum in the larger markets incase a shift to LTE becomes necessary. When they started this mess Cisco Intel etc were claiming Wimax was the contender and they bought into it. Now we've seen they have been having second thoughts reinforced by news that Deutch Telecom is interested in leasing their spectrum in the larger markets. -- Play a Death Knight? www.theebonhold.com | |

| Milledgeville is doing great Let me start by saying I'm a Clear reseller. There's no bias here though -- the network is delivering promised speeds to an even larger area than promised.
So far the only downside is when people who want to sign up when they're outside the "official" coverage map aren't allowed to do so, and right now those areas include some pretty popular residential sections that you would assume have full signal. Hopefully this will be resolved as the network reception map is reassessed over the coming weeks.
Otherwise it's "Clear" sailing! -- John M - Cranky network guy

1 edit | My sister & brother in law are on 40MB/s optic fiber. They may not have Clearwire yet in Moses Lake, WA but one they do have is a 40Mbps optical fiber internet provider. I think if Clearwire became available in that area My sister and brother in law Joe wouldn't never switch over to Clearwire at all because 40Mbps optic fiber is way faster than a 6Mbps G4 WiMAX.
