Comcast Buys Dreamworks Animation For $3.8 Billion Wednesday Aug 24 2016 12:10 EDT Regulators have formally signed off on Comcast's latest acquisition: the $3.8 billion addition of Dreamworks Animation. "The studio will become part of the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, which includes Universal Pictures, Fandango, and NBCUniversal Brand Development," Comcast says in an announcement of the finalized deal, which was first proposed roughly four months ago. DreamWorks was first launched in 1994 as a collaboration between Steven Spielberg, former Walt Disney Studios chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg, and music industry executive David Geffen. Jeff Shell, chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, will take over leadership of the acquired company. |
