Hooray! Here's to another attempt at protecting the children that will do nothing to address the actual problem with real solutions.
Congratulations Mr. AG you have essentially done nothing meaningful for the children to protect them but have more than likely pleased your lobbyist and special interest groups to no end so that you will be re-elected!

Re: Hooray! Is the NY AG this stupid?! He didn't do anything to put a dent into CP!!! But he did get rid of alot of piracy. However, he states this wasn't his aim all along. I'm sure the MPAA and RIAA have or will send him huge re-election contributions.

Yippy Skippy!!Got to love our government. I swear they live in an alternate reality. It always seems like someone in government tries to get involved in areas where they have no aptitude to do so or they are just plain stupid and really shouldn't be in a role all together where they are making decisions for others.
Is there any political figure who has brains these days or are they all just about getting what ever money they can to line there pockets? Our government needs to change drastically!!

Bank account before Politics - Hard earn Salary but minimal
Bank Account after politics - $$$$ from lobbyists, consuling jobs, etc etc.

Re: Tis nothing but resume paddingYep. All this is is something for him to add to his campaign for Governor. Just like Spitzer used the Wall St. "cleanup" thing, Cuomo found his little niche to campaign on.

This is pointlessQuoted from the article- » news.cnet.com/8301-13578 ··· 1_3-0-20"The press release included the obligatory encomiums from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's Ernie Allen, who added: "This is another tremendous step forward in ridding the Internet of child pornography. Attorney General Cuomo continues to lead the fight against child pornography and I applaud his efforts to cut this horrific material off at the source." All this does is push CP deeper underground on the internet. Whats next? Are they going to block IRC? FTP? Besides, most CP distributors will just setup their own NNTP server.

Re: This is pointlesssaid by balazone:Besides, most CP distributors will just setup their own NNTP server. How will that help them spread there material? If they do not get peered with anybody, there material is not going to go anywhere across the Usenet network...unless you meant to say FTP server?

Re: This is pointlesssaid by Glaice:By linking potential CPers to it and other interested parties. There is still no legit reason, that I can see, as to why they would create a NNTP server...far to much work and will approach being expensive which will in turn cause more exposure to them then they understandably want. Private FTP server is what they will move too. Think about the movie release groups...they release there material first on there FTP dumping sites...not Torrents, and surely not by creating an NNTP server.

In related news, the DEA has eliminated drugs by getting rid of highways. Without highways, drugs are cut off at the source. Someone might want to tell the politicians that Usenet, P2P, or even the Internet in general is not "the source" of illegal activity.

Another Idiot PoliticianNothing like taking credit for doing nothing. How lame can you be. The AG needs to get his head out of his a$$ and do some real work. You know like going after the people that actually post the child porn, or the criminals that shoot our children. After all that's what he was elected to do.

Newsgroup block?!?WTF? If someone wants child porn and newsgroups are blocked by their isp they sign up for a seperate newsgroup account. Hell, I think I have newgroups included with my dsl but I pay for unlimited access and speed. For $5-$10 a month you can have access to just about anything you want. = FAIL!

I would of thought it was worth itto take this asshat to court just to embarrass him. I am surprised that the Comcast legal department thought it wasn't worth it.
This day and age the only way to tell a politician to shut up is to shame them in a public forum.
Something tells me the only reason Cuomo is doing this is because he's planning to run for Governor of New York.

What possible good would have come from it? Legal battles are expensive. They had nothing to gain form it but all the money to lose. There was no "winning" outcome other then principal...and principals don't matter in the real business world.

Re: I would of thought it was worth itYeah I know. I just wish sometimes that businesses tell the politicians to stuff it when they tell them what to do in order to further their own political agendas.
