Comcast Experiences Nationwide Overnight Outage

Comcast says a "hardware issue" caused a significant overnight outage for the nation's broadband customers. Fortunately most users were sleeping when the outage occurred; customers on Twitter complained that service cut out around 3AM, and Down Detector indicates the outages impacted customers from Florida to California. Comcast now says the issue has been resolved, but some users tell us they continue to experience connectivity issues.

Comcast was relatively vague as to the outage's cause.

"Early this morning, our engineers detected a hardware issue that impacted voice, video and Internet services for a subset of customers across the country for several hours,” Comcast said in a statement.

"During this time, customers also may have had difficulty reaching us by phone. Our engineers quickly identified and resolved the issue, and services are returning to normal. We appreciate our customers’ patience as we worked to fix this and are sorry that we inconvenienced them."

Not DNS outage. More likely internal router or peer.

IDK what anyone else was seeing, but I use the SB6121 (so no router built in), and what I felt starting around 4AM CDT was partially internet loss. My Google DNS was still working, Google search worked, but a lot of smaller websites (Spiceworks, ForensiT, and many others) did not. I was, unfortunately, awake and trying to work at the time. Connectivity to my VPN host was still good, so I was still able to get some stuff done. So, no, this was not just another Comcast DNS outage. Seems like a significant peer link or internal router went down.

I've asked for a partial refund since I was actually impacted and have yet to hear back.

Internet affected off/on all day

Internet problems started around 2am pacific time (alarms on my systems woke me up); why when there are problems with Comcast phone (in areas of Wa state 911 service was routed to Canada/BC; that made the local Seattle tv news) the first thing that seems to be affected is the 2.4G wifi (while 5G doesn't miss a beat). Has been a WTF wacky thing for the last 2+ years since the newer business class Cisco 'Gateway' a/c wifi modems were fielded, have never got any answer from Comcast as to why.

Blips and outages continued at random intervals all day Tuesday, which was tons of fun for commercial users. Seems to have calmed down by this morning.

And this morning

While trying to get work done this morning my local Comacast Internet crashed at 8:59 am EDT. So they had more then one major outage in the last 24 hours. This is starting to be a weekly issue. Can't they take their gross profits and overfilling gains and maintain their network?
