Comcast Offers Live Streaming For iPad
AnyPlay Service Being Tested in Nashville, Denver
Comcast today announced "AnyPlay," a device which enables Comcast TV subscribers to watch live television via their iPads. According to the AnyPlay website, homes get an Anyplay device that will stream any channels you get through traditional cable to mobile devices -- as long as you stay in your home. The service is free, though the website states there may be a $10 install fee involved. There's a few restrictions -- namely that the service is so far only being offered to HD triple play customers in Nashville and Denver. It's also fairly restricted in terms of which devices you can use, so far only supporting the iPad with Motorola Xoom support in the works. Comcast isn't giving a timeline on when all Comcast markets will see this -- only noting they'll be adding new, unspecified markets within months.

AnyPlay device needed - works like a Slingbox but Lan only

To use this service you need a Slingbox-like Motorola Televation STB.

»www.multichannel.com/art ··· Macs.php

»www.motorola.com/Video-S ··· features

It has a coax cable connection and an ethernet connection to plug in to your wireless router. It will only work over local WiFi on your Lan. It won't send streaming over the Wan.

In other words, you can get more functionality with a Slingbox and not wait for months(or longer) to get this from Comcast.

No doubt. I have a STB in my living room, the bedroom, my office and the little digi-boxes in my son's room and the garage.

Why in the hell (outside of my patio) would I use this if it's limited to the house? lol I can control my DVR from anywhere on my iPad but I can't watch the stuff. Go figure. Thus why HBO and others have their own apps for such things.

Yet another walled garden move.

Exactly...

Once I have the program saved on my Sage Box
I can stream it, put it on Brand X player and take it with me.

I can't see this being useful at all.

Not even for a school.
Most schools would just display the video thru the overhead
projector for the entire class.

What real world use is this good for?
Just to be able to say you can watch your TV on the iPad
along with your netflix?

Dumb.

Precisely!!.They don't want you to spend your time watching Netflix. They are afraid of people saying. wait a minute!. All I need is Netflix!?.
