Comcast Unveiling New iPhone Application
Check your mail, voicemail, and TV listings...
by Karl Bode Thursday 16-Jul-2009 tags: business · alternatives · wireless
Comcast gives us a nudge today to note that the cable giant will be releasing a new free iPhone application that gives Comcast customers the ability to manage select Comcast services. According to Comcast spokesman Charlie Douglas, the application (available here for those with a Comcast ID) allows customers to check and manage their Comcast e-mail, check Comcast TV schedules, view on demand listing and watch trailers, and check and manage their Comcast Digital Voice voicemail. Comcast tells us that remote DVR control is planned for future versions. If you're a Comcast customer, drop your impressions in our comment section below.

Kinda cool

Thats kinda a good thing i suppose; hopefully streaming HD isnt too far away.

I just with that the iphone would come to verizon (or at least apple builds one with a chipset that can do wimax).

Lets just hope 2010 is our year for the iphone.

I have a feeling it's going to come down to more than CDMA/LTE. Verizon likes to lock down the phones so you can only use VZW Services, and are even introducing their own app store. Apple will have none of that...it will be an interesting fight.

For that they'd have to put out new software to all the boxes... not something they like doing.

Will DVR control be available for all internet users, or just via the iPhone App?

This is something Comcast needs to make happen, just about everyone else has it.

No proof, but i'm pretty sure i read somewhere it will be available to all customers. You will log into comcast.net and be able to control the DVR. But not gospel.

I'll do it later.

Well, here's to hoping.

I'm crossing over to Fios TV as soon as it's available. The Verizon techs are as thick as crooks on Silver Lake around here (a little DE reference for ya).

I may live in PA, but I've worked for the State of De for the past 11 years, and my sister lives on the lower eastern shore (Whitam, MD). That's a really special part of the world you guys are in. Enjoy it while it's rural. Where I live used to be rural, now I'm surrounded by 11,999 assholes

The remote DVR iPod scheduling is due to be released 6 months after the Meter. Don't hold your breath.

I would only care for the DVR portion of it... To record something when I am not home, however I dont own a iPhone nor would I ever want one. For as much as I hate cell phones and talking on the phone for that matter......

amazed

@comcast.net

They tamed the Guide!

I really HATE C-cast's on-screen program maze that they call Guide.

I have to scroll (oh so slowly given their anemic system) to find anything, one tiny (even on a big TV), ad-cluttered screen at a time.

This iPhone app actually fixes that. You can designate favorites and then ONLY those channels show. Very fast and efficient - finally!

Yay!

Nice job.

Comcast iPhone app

I just installed and this app really works great ! I have the Tripleplay and checking voice mail was impossible before, this app makes the connection work seemlessly Very well done Comcast! Waiting for ver 2.0 to program my DVR

Re: iphone app for direct tv?

App looks nice, but knowing Comcast they will soon start placing ads in the app that take up half of the screen...
