Comcast Wins 'Worst Company in America' Award For Second Time

Comcast has officially won the Consumerist's "Worst Company in America" award for the second time. According to the website Comcast beat out a significant number of heavy hitters riding massive waves of negative public sentiment for the honorary "golden poo," including Monsanto, numerous banks, and Verizon, AT&T and Time Warner Cable. "Comcast’s win makes it only the second company to claim multiple Poos," states the Consumerist.

Comcast won the award in 2010. Their second win comes on the back of more scientifically-supported awful ratings in nearly all consumer satisfaction surveys (from the ACSI to Consumer Reports); ratings the company annually promises to address yet never quite gets around to fixing.

The award ironically comes the same day that Comcast formally filed their Time Warner Cable merger paperwork with the FCC, as the company continues to promise all manner of consumer-friendly improvements should the merger be approved.

I enjoy beating up Comcast as much as the next guy...

...but in terms of how much permanent damaged these corporations are doing, I can't imagine Comcast is worse than the likes of, say, Monsanto.

There was a brief period where Comcast seemed to be on a good path when Frank "@ComcastCares" Eliason was there...things most certainly seem to have gone downhill in a hurry since Frank left.

But as I said, is crappy customer service from your cable company on the same level as future generations not knowing what real food tastes like because Monsanto has irreversibly genetically modified our food sources? Or Bank of America (or other mega banks) leaving countless people homeless and destitute?

The WCIA awards are great for a chuckle...but we're long overdue for a serious national discussion on how large our largest corporations have gotten and whether it's time to reign them in.
