Computerized Subway Cars Being Phased In Get ready for computerized subways. The job title of subway driver could go by the wayside when computer-guided trains set to make their maiden voyage in about a year. They'll start on the L train and then? Well the future will be now. This will change everything about the subway system, and your commute. New technology, new computers that will run the train. And it's going in now. New York City Transit gave us a sneak peek on Thursday -- it's an on-board computer that will control everything. Here's the perk -- the computer will keep perfect separation between trains, so they can run closer together, increasing capacity by 20 percent. Basically, they can put more trains on the tracks. | Re: New York Post article The controls on a train really aren't that hard to operate anyways. There are simulators floating around out there. I think there was a 16-year old kid a few years back who posted as a motorman and drove the train fairly well until he went over the speed limit. Hell I could probably drive a train.
