Congress to 'Debate' CISPA Behind Closed Doors
So You Pesky Plebeians Don't Point Out How Awful It Is
by Karl Bode Wednesday 03-Apr-2013 tags: legal · business · legislation · consumers
Last month I noted how CISPA was likely returning for a second try, despite complaints that the bill would significantly erode consumer privacy and expand Internet activity surveillance under the guise of "cybersecurity." Sponsor Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger insisted he was working on fixing the bill so it addressed the concerns of privacy advocates, then immediately proceeded in re-introducing a completely unchanged version of the original. Now the bill is heading to Congress for a closed door debate so that the public can't point out how awful the bill is -- again. About that whole Congress supposedly working for the people thing...

Just goes to show who politicians really work for...

Re: Keeping out..

Transparency and change you can believe in As long as we keep asking for this, we'll continue getting it....over and over and over......

Anyway, this proposed legislation is a non-issue IMO.

How is this a "non-issue"?

Re: Keeping out..

How is it an issue? How is your privacy (which doesn't really exist, IMO) affected by this proposed legislation? Honest question, because there's nothing in the draft legislation that attacks your perceived privacy. The intent of this legislation is to enable easier sharing of classified threat information with the private sector to help protect our nation's critical communications infrastructure.

Re: Keeping out..

It has been. Twice. Now it's being discussed by the Intelligence subcommittee. They don't discuss anything openly.

We need some wikileaks action up in these things.

This information is going to become law if it gets the votes, as such it cannot be kept secret.

Re: Keeping out..

We've already seen the language in this proposed bill, twice. What more do you want?

Terrible

So in this democracy, lawmakers can decide our fate behind closed doors.

Eventually, I hope we as citizens will stand up and regain control of this roller coaster.

Re: Terrible

No, this is a committee marking up the language. I'm sure you can watch the vote (if it actually gets that far) on CSPAN if you'd like.

That is the mistake everyone makes. We are not a democracy, we are a Republic. We vote in a person who we hope will act in our interest.
The problem is we have moved from Republic to oligarchy .
It will continue to get worse unless people wise up, and given the viewership that Honey BooBoo had, and the fact that I saw something call Myrtle Manor on The Learning Channel, I figure it is more or less a foregone conclusion.

Someone should plant a bug in their office.

And then broadcast it to the internet.

Re: Someone should plant a bug in their office.

We simply need to arrest the so called law makers as they are writing treasonous laws in flagrant violation of the Constitution which is still legally the Supreme Law of the Land.

Then we don’t need to bother with going to the Supreme Court as the laws are illegal to begin with.

However we need some stand up individuals in LE to get on it a.s.a.p. probably the Sheriff's as they actually have jurisdiction over the Feds in nearly all areas.

I wonder

how long it will take, and what will be the tipping point event, that finally exposes our government for what it is. We are not, and never have been, a democracy or republic. We have always been a plutocracy - rule by the wealthy. The "government" is merely the shell game by which wealth is transferred to the coffers of the already wealthy, the vast majority of citizens are kept placid and entertained, and "legal" processes are developed to silence dissent.

We need another civil war.
