Copyright Troll Prenda Appears in Court, Pleads Fifth Judge Angered, Prenda's Fun Is Likely Over Tipped by tmpchaos
Things have been falling apart for copyright troll Prenda Law, who has been gleefully threatening to sue copyrighted porn downloaders if they don't pony up some cash (aka extortion). The porn focused copyright troll outfit didn't bother to show at a hearing earlier this month that was intended to address some of the sleazier things the group has allegedly been up to, including identity theft. Today a follow up hearing was held, and while the group did bother to attend this one, they immediately pleaded the Fifth -- which angered Judge Otis Wright: From various reports from inside the courtroom, it appears that the Judge asked various questions and was not at all pleased with the decision by Team Prenda to clam up, noting that he would "draw reasonable inferences" from the "facts as I know them." Judge Wright's attempts to find out more information to support or rebut the facts as he knows them apparently did not go well. He asked about Alan Cooper, and got no response. The hearing lasted all of twelve minutes, and the decision to plead the Fifth, barring some kind of miracle, is likely a death sentence for Prenda. The firm had dug its own grave by trying to do battle with the deep pockets of Verizon and Comcast, and that was before they decided to commit legal seppuku by allegedly engaging in all manner of sleazy and potentially criminal behavior.

| | Protecting themselves It's pretty obvious that the Prenda gang sees their civil lawsuits going down the drain. That's over. At this point, they're trying to shield themselves as best they can from a criminal prosecution that they probably feel is coming, so they're saying absolutely nothing that can be used against them later. | |

If they do nothing but troll and from the ground up built a company with little to no real 'image' in the real world, they most likely built a hollow company with the intent to cash in on any opportunities they find in the world.
Like those scamming companies rampant in India.
Had they been a legitimate company that protects the copyright of authors and such, instead of chasing and extorting people for money, they'd be better off creating SERVICES to authors and utilize distribution ideas to change how people access and such, without pissing off people of course. How about utilizing analytical skills to understand why it happen, and build reports and even sell services to other companies and such to better protect them when they release their works.
Here's the biggest piece of knowledge about chaos and order. To beat chaos, you do not create more chaos, but more order. This goes in education, services, and even new contents. By pissing people off, committing "fraud" and privacy issues, you end up spreading the same kind of chaos that Pirates themselves may subconsciously spread around (since people don't choose to live as a pirate, nor chose to rely on piracy, they happened to do it because it's convenient, which tells you a LOT, had people listened).
Of course, to not go in the same line as DRM and video game industry is another matter. In the end, all companies think about is the cash flow, not the end game of their careers.
When you create a company, what's the first order of business? Most likely to make money.

Isn't there umpteen zillion websites out there with free porn that are kind of like You Tube? -- I do not, have not, and will not work for AT&T/Comcast/Verizon/Charter or similar sized company.

Isn't there umpteen zillion websites out there with free porn that are kind of like You Tube? Yes there are, but some people like their jimmies to be rustled in 1080P.
| | | | A large majority of the 'free' sites are actually showing copyrighted content that's been uploaded by any anonymous user from actual pay sites. HD included. Many still maintain the original owners watermark too. Makes one wonder why these 'free' sites aren't gone after by these patent trolls hmm? | |

Isn't there umpteen zillion websites out there with free porn that are kind of like You Tube? Local copies > streaming. You can rewind them, pause them, watch them offline, do whatever you want in real time. Being that this is DSLR, I'd also be remiss if I didn't point out the advantage that a downloaded copy only counts once against your cap.

You must not be familiar with home made porn, which costs absolutely nothing to produce. All it takes is a camera and a couple going about their usual sexual lives.
