Cox Also Raising Rates on Broadband, TV Services

Joining Time Warner Cable, Dish, DirecTV and AT&T, Cox Communications is joining the TV/broadband industry rate hike season festivities with some hikes of their own for the new year. A notice sent to Cox subscribers this week states that because the company is "working every day to add value to your Cox services," customers will soon get to pay the company more money in the new year.

According to the notice, most Cox TV packages will be seeing hikes ranging from $1 to $7 per month. Broadband service as well as service bundles will also be seeing significant price increases.

According to the notice, the price hikes will begin January 7, 2016, though as with most hikes, contract customers won't get to enjoy the added "value" until after their current agreements expire. These hikes will vary depending on your location and the amount of local competition.

Amusingly, a few weeks ago Cox posted a website that attacked cord cutting and went to great lengths to mock the high price of over the top Internet video services. But like most of the companies socking users with price hikes in the new year, Cox has yet to really get the message that many consumers will no longer tolerate sometimes bi-annual rate hikes when, on average, they're only watching 17 of the channels offered.

Blame it on sports

Full stop.

****************
On Thursday the NFL kicks off what is almost certain to be another record money-making season.

The world's richest sports league raked in $12 billion in revenue last year, up about 16% from the 2013-14 season. And that figure is expected to hit $13 billion this year. That's according to a CNNMoney analysis of financial figures released by the Green Bay Packers, the league's only publicly-owned team, as well as sources familiar with league finances.

All in, the league posted profits last year near $1 billion.

Now 150 million call NFL home, which equates to $80 per person per year.

*****************

Now add baseball, basketball, hockey, etc. and you get the point. Bread and circuses.

Price hike

Certainly one of the key lessons I remember from Economics 101: when customers are fleeing the corporate ship by the thousands monthly, a smart strategy to encourage them to stay/come back is to continue to raise prices above the rate of inflation. Customers love it when you do that. They realize you're investing in causes worthy of support like the executive compensation package. Brilliant, Cox!

Don't care.

You should pay me for watching 220 channels of garbage.

People are sick and tired of paying for garbage content.
I have been free for almost 2 years now and don't miss it.
