by needforspeed59 05:06PM Wednesday Sep 04 2002
This is Cox's second of several commercial HDTV deployments planned for 2002. Along with other members of the National Cable Television Association, Cox is supporting the FCC's plan for moving television signals into the digital spectrum by rapidly deploying the product to its customers on a market-by-market basis throughout 2002 and into 2003; Cox is currently finalizing additional deployment plans.

cooL!

Wow!! I'm in shock! I had no idea a cable company would offer HDTV in my life time!
Amazing!!
I thought satellite would be the only way to get this!
It seems their converter box is even cheaper than the one DISH network sells.
Now if only they offered this in Mission Viejo california...

Re: cooL!

HDTV in orange county soon

I just got a thing in the mail about Cox offering HDTV in mission viejo pretty soon.
That is cool..but I probably wont' switch to Cox digital.

I think the fact that I can't get local channels in digital format is a big negative.
I notice a definite improvement in picture quality for my locals going from cox to dish network

Re: HDTV in orange county soon

Yeah, you need to have Cox Digital here in Phoenix to get HDTV, but I already had that. We get one local broadcaster so far... ABC affiliate. Hopefully, the rest will follow soon.

Box rental?

I am seeing that they sell the box $$$, but I was also reading that they will rent the box. Is this the case in Phoenix? What is the cost?

Re: Box rental?

There's not a rental option for the box in Phoenix. It's $500 to purchase which is a few hundred less than adding HD to a mini-dish. I watched the Soprano's in HD last night. Awesome!

Re: Box rental?

Kinda sux... I would prefer a rental with option to buy, kinda like the way they do the cable modems. Unfortunately this makes it a little to expensive for me right now.
