Any company not running FTTH is shooting themselves in the foot and has absolutely no excuse for it. There's plenty of excuses not to do it. Spare parts, tech training, call center support documentation, new field toolkits, new video distribution mechanisms, different customer set top boxes, etc. No doubt they need to move in that direction (and I'm not arguing that they shouldn't), but it's not as easy as sitting down and saying "we should roll fiber now". Really? My ILEC did it ... Verizon did it ... why can't the big boys? | |

| Re: All greenfield's should be FTTH Verizon is doing an actual "new" build. They're replacing a system with a new one but only when the customer changes over to the new system. They're not having two differenet set-top boxes as far as programming. Also VZW had to put in a new call center to handle FiOS many cable companies do not want to pay for that extra item right now let alone to rebuild an entire network that they just got done doing maybe 7 years ago. VZ had no option but to upgrade to Fiber since they are still using a system that is from the 80s and before. | |

Similar to TelCo FTTP? No. Verizon, to use one prominent example, doesn't do switched IPTV. Their video is essentially a HFC system that happens to have the coax begin on the outside wall of your house, rather than down the street somewhere.

| Are there even any big new developments going in in Phoenix these days?
I lived there during the height of the real estate craze, when they were building new bedroom communities way up I-17 and down in places like Casa Grande.
I've also heard that they're one of the hardest hit real estate markets in the country...no big surprise...it was pretty obvious that there was way too much construction going on...

Now anybody who wants to commute on I-10 from Buckeye or Maricopa to downtown Phoenix 5 days a week had better be making 7 figures otherwise its just not worth it. | |

| why? it's already fibere on the street.. all they need to dew is replace the copper to the house.
and since there doing the 1.0 ghz upgrade nationwide, now would be a great time to dew it.
the set top boxes wouldn't have to be replaced, though the IPG looks like total shit.
what will this do to our services? probably nothing.
cox is about 3 years behind the times when it comes to channels, selection, speeds and their website.
it's about time they stepped into the future.
and what's with this "generation cox"
