Cox Hits 20Mbps
But only in New England

Cox offers different prices and speeds depending on the market. In most markets (like Roanoke, Virginia) the fastest speed they offer is 12Mbps/1Mbps for $56.95 per month. However, a user in our Cox forums notes that the company recently bumped New England users to 20Mbps/2Mbps. The company's New England pricing page is here, and tags the tier at $51.99 per month.

Are the caps stopping you from enjoying your service somehow?

I'm pretty sure it's the AUP that is doing that, not the caps.

And we're just figuring this out?

It has been this way since July. Standard tier is 10Mbps/2Mbps and the highest speed tier is 20Mbps/2Mbps.

What do they powerboost to? 30/2? And it's a buck cheaper then what I pay now.

Let's hope Comcast has something nice up their sleeve.

cox in virginia

I'm using their 5/2 service, the 2MBit upload is really the noticeable part. Emailing big files is obviously faster, uploading to websites is very nice. They also offer 15/2 service, but I didn't need the download. This is in northeast virginia, though. I don't think going 15 -> 20 is that big a deal, of course I want download speed to progress. Verizon going to 20/20 is a real advance I think, which hopefully they compete on to the fullest.

That's pretty nice

...I've seen a few speedtests where I maxed out at 22Mbps, but it was very short lived. More often, it'd peak at around 12-15...

Glad they're ramping up speeds!!!!

I had some speed tests peak around that level the other day, but attributed it to PowerBoost. I hope Kansas gets those speeds soon, because that would mean that Fort Smith, AR would get them (I think we're on the same network segment)....

actually this applies even if you are a customer... i'm in san diego and cox doesn't even offer anything like this at all... only where fios seems to be making an inroad into their revenue stream...

Lucky you.

I'd be paying Comcast $57/month for 6/384 (+ basic cable I don't use, because it would actually be $60 total without basic) if I didn't keep calling every six months to cancel.

And if they don't keep waiving the cost of cable, I'm going to cancel and jump to Qwest.

Now how about the rst of the US?

It's great that everybody over in New England can get 20/2, but the fastest I can get is 8/768 (guess from who?).

How about Cox runs a cable line straight through Washington, tells nobody, and I can get faster, cheaper, internet? Or maybe a fiber line, Verizon?

Anybody? It's cold and dark here in the tunnel of Comcast... Hello? I want my mommie...

Well Im in New England and stuck with Comcast. 8/768 when people in most of the surrounding cities can get Verizon dsl faster and cheaper. Or even Fios ! Not everybody here is getting it.

Cox is the best!

I had Cox when I lived in RI and it was the best. It worked well, and was reasonably priced. They also considered the bare bones cable service (12.50 a month) to be cable for the purpose of getting a 10 dollar bundle discount-which meant that you got the basic cable tier for $2.50 a month!

To my knowledge, this still works.

Both

I have both Cable (RR thru BHN) and V*'s FiOS. My cable never gets the advertised speeds. Both services are approx. the same $. 10/1 Cable and 20/5 V*. On a file upload I can crush my corporate VPN!
Oh, did I mention my cable rarely gets the advertised speeds. Yes, I guess I did.

Big surprise

Thats its in a fios area.
12/1 is probably as good as its going to get in non-fios areas.
theres no reason to go higher in non-fios areas.
course lots of your download bandwidth goes unused anyway so its really a token service upgrade. how about the upload? 15/3 would be better than 20/2.

Cox does have a nice lineup here in Connecticut

Ranging from 768k/256 for 16.99
to the 20Mb/2Mb for 51.99

Add to that the powerboost service they license from Comcast as well.

There does seem to be some misunderstanding in some posts above however.

For starters..there is no Fiber competition (AKA Verizon fios) here in this state. Our state is serviced by AT&T and their pewverse (tm) service. It's unclear really why Cox offers this top tier service in this state when basically that is their only competition in the areas of Ct. they serve.

It probably has to do with their network being newer or more advanced enough to offer it. Or maybe it's because they're a part of the overall New England region where ftth is a competitor in some parts of it. That's not here in Ct. however.

Even though Cox borders my Comcast area and is in the towns practically adjacent to mine..even Comcast doesn't match those tiers. We have the 6000/384k with p/b..or 8000/768k with pb for about the same price Cox is offering 10/2 to 20/2. And so clearly you can see it's by area and even town..and by provider as to what is going on here in this state and/or region.

Anyways..kudo's to Cox for doing what they are. Everyone I know here in this state that uses them really likes their service.
