| Kinda pointless to me Is it just me or is this backwards. I mean once I get my XX" plasma/LCD and HD DVR it's a downgrade to send the video to my puny LCD on my computer.
On the other hand, an easy way to get the video content I've stored on my computer to display on my TV screen. That's a Killer App. Any video service provider that wants to sell me that box, I'm an instant subscriber.
I know There are boxes that can do this for me already, but really, how may video decoders should I need to hook up to my screen? KISS. | |

DirecTV HR2x DVR's have been able to play media content from PC's for quite some time. Now PC's can play content from the DVR's. You can go either way as of last nights HR2x firmware update.
I'm much more interested in streaming video content FROM my DVR's than streaming content TO them. However, streaming content TO these DVR's has been possible for quite some time.

It's a standard UPNP DLNA client. You can watch Audio, Video, and Pictures from any DLNA server on any HR20/21/22 DirecTV box.
Video formats are a bit choosy, however. I'd recommend H.264, with a maximum bitrate under 7 Mbps (probably best to stay closer to 5). | |

I'm new to the forum - I'm pleased with using media share. Have an hr22 hooked to my laptop using Intel core 2 duo processor and windows vista. Installed Tversity (very easy install) and did the network connect on the hr22. It worked first try. My wife is from Germany and I have a number of German TV stations streaming with a pretty good picture and very few problems. I also have streaming radio stations. My music from window media player works fine. Also stream youtube sites and pod casts. The only problem I have is with my pictures. They play fine and look good on by 52" LCD . However, the only way I can get them to play is using the shuffle function. I have thousands of photos in one sub-directory. So I guess I have to go through them all and make many sub-directories. I really like Tversity.

Came out a few years ago. Let's you play WMV files as you care to. Add TVersity, and you can play 95% of your movies on the big screen. | |

I had to turn off my mail server's firewall and security to get the emails to deliver. One was delivered by 203.73.25.212, the other from 203.73.25.214.
First problem, 203.73.x.x is assigned to SeedNet in Taiwan. My server's firewall normally drops SMTP traffic from Asian and Eastern Europe IPs. I don't know anybody out there and all they send me is spam ergo I normally drop their traffic.
Second problem is much bigger though. Neither IP has a reverse lookup (PTR) record. This is going to cause problems with ALOT of ISP's mail servers. Many ISPs will refuse mail from servers with no PTR.
So.. I recommend you try having the serial sent to an email address at different domain names until one works. Try gmail, hotmail, etc.,.. and keep in mind they may immediately flag it as spam and deliver it to your spam/junk folder.
Sucks. Hopefully, Cyberlink will get a clue and hire someone who knows how to run mail servers. | |

| HDTV on PC This could be a good thing. I have put off getting satellite service because there is no way to get an HD feed from the box to my computer.
With Cable TV, I can just send the coax directly into my HD TV tuner to get all of my locals in High Def. There is no other type of HD input to a PC that I can find.
The reason I prefer watching on my computer is that I have a projector hooked up through the VGA port that is capable of a true High Def signal. Watching football on a 15' diagonal screen beats the "tiny" HDTV in my living room. This could open up other (non-internet) viewing options. | |

I've read, but haven't tried yet, that turning off one monitor in the driver software will then allow the remaining monitor to work. But there are times I want to watch stuff on my HD DVR in a different room.
Also, I like the interface, it is very easy.
I can watch TV and work/play.
Plus, it is in high-def (though I am not sure what resolution yet).
I did not know about it until today.
Looking at the bandwidth it uses, yes, I can do it but probably not in too many locations. I have not tested how it adjusts for network problems or anything but on your local LAN or on a high speed network, works well.
I also have a slingbox and it has its advantages as well.
For example, a slingbox I can watch at my camp in the middle of the woods at 768k, the Directv app I doubt it.
The Directv app, perfect for moving around the home with and watching what is on my main DVR. I cannot afford a high def DVR in every room so some are SD or just HD receivers.
So, 8 stars out of 10? | |

A lot of us don't have TVs anymore, but have lots of computers laying around.
This is perfect for the modern world, and actually about half a decade past its largest initial usefulness, and a decade past when it should have been introduced.
I caught someone say "when [he] buys [his] plasma TV" ... yeah right, well, sure, yeah, for him this is pretty much moot AFTER he buys it. It's as if we have to own a new TV just to watch TV. Some of us had money to invest into the betting game at Wall Street (and bet against liar loans and won big), but a lot of us never had any money in the first place, and are just waiting for housing prices to go down (way, way, superway way way down). DirecTV saw the light, and realized they better jump on board or get steamrolled by us downsizing our expenditures on useless redundant content delivery companies when the Internet is so much more standard and reliable.
Whoever stopped running DirecTV did a great thing by getting out of the way (Robert Mudock?).
I am aware that some people have put in the necessary investments in the latest version of legacy HDTV architecture to keep up to date with the current CableCo/SatelliteCo setup, but I'd say most of us young people haven't. I saw this all first hand at one of my recent jobs.
Lately, my income has become much, much healthier, but I certainly haven't decided to start wasting money on things I already realized I don't need.
We will get a projector when we can afford it, but there's no guarantee we're plugging it into anything but our computer. That's the idea. That's where all the content is for us, anyway. If it's free, we might augment it a smidgen from other sources, but only if the cables don't look ugly.
That might change when we can afford BluRay. That might change everything ... BluRay might be the savior for old fashioned TV. We'll need a competent 1080p set before we bother with a BluRay, though, and the prices on those 1080p sets are still pushing that item down on the budget priority list, even if we consider the best good quality set deals on Amazon.com. (The BluRay player is cheaper than the set, and as far as I'm concerned, they're a matched pair, so get bought at the same time, and returned at the same time if they don't work. I still want them componentized, though, so no BluRay inside my set (ew) (but come to think of it, that might be an ideal way to control quality production (yes, there are things that the player has to do for picture quality)).) | |
