Dish, CBS Agree to Extension to Avoid Blackout

Dish and CBS have announced a temporary extension to avoid Dish customers losing access to CBS content as the two sides hash out a new carriage contract. According to Variety, the biggest sticking point isn't retrans fees (as is usually the case) but Dish's plans to launch an over the top streaming TV service, planned before the end of the year. CBS and Dish have already had a long and ugly feud over Dish's Hopper auto-ad-skipping DVR. CBS has also indicated they'd demand a lot of Dish in exchange for over the top video streaming rights. Dish is also engaged in an ongoing dispute with Turner Broadcasting, resulting in customers losing access to channels like CNN.

Update: It looks like most of the missing Turner content has returned until at least March as the two sides hash out a new deal.

STELAR Hotlined In Senate

On a side note, Turner Channels are back live on Dish.

I really wonder if both CBS and Turner along with Dish are feeling a some well deserved heat from the STELAR (Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act Reathorization (STELAR) Act)?

I'm Welcome A Pay TV Collapse.

Unfortunately, given one or two more years, the current television model will collapse due to online channel providers and the Pay Television pricetag getting larger than any athlete could with steroids.
