I have a HD tv and I have no interest in paying 10 dollars more a month just to get HD feeds. Don't watch enough TV for that anyway. Much rather spend that money on games for my PS3. Or Netflix.

Both DTV and Dish brag about their HD count but every chart I have seen more than half of the channels are PPV or regional networks. I currently have over 100 watchable channels with Comcast. With DTV or Dish I would have about 60-70. | |

I dropped all the HD channels anyway. All I really care to watch in HD is football. Since most games are on my locals I don't see any reason to pay for the HD package. | |

Unfortunately, the only thing I ever DVR from any local channel is Nova, and somewhere along the line from the HD broadcast to the SD downconvert, somebody is cropping off the entire left/right edges, so not only do I get a horrid picture quality, but I often can't read the titles or other text such as a person's name at the bottom of the screen, since the first 2-3 letters are cut off, even when it's such a huge font. | |

Nothing is lost at the top or bottom. I have my Samsung 46" LCD set to Just Scan and the Dish outputting 1080i, so the Dish receiver maps pixel for pixel to the TV after upscaling the 480i 4:3 signal to 1080i 16:9 and adding the pillarbox bars.
I've flipped over to local antenna on my TV (which only works when I hold my thumb on the end of a piece of coax) to watch PBS and when it displays something at the bottom like:

On my Dish recording of the same programming, I can only see:

In my area Directv is better for me over comcast when it comes to HD channels I watch.
Altitude Sports HD, Comcast no.
Comedy Central HD, Comcast no.
Discovery Channel HD, Comcast no.
Fox Sports Network (I get them all in HD), Comcast no.
History Channel HD, Comcast no.
Planet Green HD, Comcast no.
While I don't watch Spike and USA channel often when I do DTV is in HD comcast isn't. When I watch my niece all her kids channels are in HD on Directv comcast here only has Disney HD.
Comcast is really behind in my area when I compare to satellite when it comes to HD content I watch. | |

| It matters now, but in a year or two it wont All of the providers are working to increase HD counts right now. So it does matter today because these companies are not finished deploying new services.
However in a year or two when everyone takes HD channels for granted, service providers are going to have to shift the focus to a shiny new interface to navigate their product offerings. Eventually everyone will have over 150 HD's, but what will differentiate each provider? Most likely how nice their DVR and on screen guide appeals to the masses. I'll tell you one thing for sure, if I had options between 3 providers, all carrying the channels I love in HD, then the next focus is the on screen guide features and looks. The HUGE upcoming Gen-Y market influence who sometimes are quick to judge a book by its cover. Gen-Y and beyond grew up on the Internet. Gen-Y is used to technology and consumes it like no other. It's important to create a well designed and visually captive user interface to be able to market your products and services to this new appealing generation.
HD is the focus now, but lets shift that focus and get our navigation and UI out of the 90's and into this century. In a world filled with nice interfaces from iPhones, iPad's, Palm Pre's, android phones, Windows 7, Mac OS, Tivo, Moxi, Windows Media Center, Fios, U-Verse, Dish Network vip922 DVR, the whole Web 2.0 revolution, etc, theres no excuse anymore. | |

When my contract is up, I will probably jump ship to DirecTV due to being nicer to sports subs. I don't care to pay an extra couple of bucks a month to support their giving in to the NFL and MLB. Once comcast, directv, and dishnetwork all have the HD channels I watch I will start looking at price and will switch between which ever is cheaper. | |

They are only doing the stretched thing on older shows and shows not recorded in HD. Shows that are made in HD are definitely not stretched.
Same is the case with TNT HD and TBS HD, for some reason they show movies in stretched on the side 4:3, but their original shows are in 16:9. | |

As soon as my cable provider adds Comedy Central HD they have all the HD I could ever want, and right now they only have around 60 channels in HD.
As far as national channels go, I only regularly watch a few - Fox News, CNN, Discovery, NatGeo, HDNet, the Weather Channel. My wife likes HGTV and Food Network.
Most of what I watch is on the big 4 and PBS anyway. | |

I requested Msnbc channel;they told mr I have to pay another $10 on top of $69.99.So I cancelled my service within 7 business days. No $99 activation fee return.calling everyday for return of receiever but did not get any return label.
