Dish Customers Lose Access to CNN, Other Turner Networks

Dish customers are the latest to lose access to channels they're paying for thanks to yet another retransmission fee dispute. Turner Broadcasting channels including CNN, Cartoon Network and Headline News were pulled from Dish's lineup yesterday after the two sides failed to agree to terms. As with other fights of this type, both sides blame the other and are using websites to direct consumer ire toward the other party (See Turner's SaveMyShows.com website and Dish's DishStandsForYou.com website).

"Currently, Turner is making unreasonable financial demands, and they have refused to extend the overall agreement. We are working around the clock to reach a fair and reasonable agreement with Turner," states Dish.

"Turner has worked diligently for months to come to a fair agreement including multiple extensions and compromises, and it’s unfortunate that Dish is once again operating in a disruptive manner that takes away networks and programming from their customers," states Turner.

Like other disputes of this type, the companies will eventually strike a confidential deal resulting in higher rates, but only after consumers spend some time without the content they're already paying for.

Don't be fooled - content providers are the cause

Don't be fooled - content providers are the cause of ever higher rates and they demand higher prices for the pathetic reality shows that now flood cable and sat systems. They have 1 or maybe 2 good channels and force the cable and sat TV providers to pay for a bundle of add-on worthless channels no one wants to watch.

And whenever a sat or cable company refuses to pay their extortionate fees, the sheep bleat loudly because of the 1 or 2 good channels they can't live without until the cable or sat companies give in. And, of course, unable to understand basic economics, when the sat company gives in, their price goes up. And then they have something new to whine about.
