Dish Customers Lose Access to Fox News In Latest Retrans Fight Monday Dec 22 2014 08:14 EDT Tipped by humanfilth Dish customers lost access to the Fox News Channel over the weekend as Dish found itself in the midst of yet another retransmission feud. It has been a busy retrans dispute season for Dish, which also recently battled CBS and Turner Broadcasting over soaring carriage fees. Like most disputes, each side blamed the other while consumers remain stuck in the middle paying for content they're not receiving. From a Dish statement: quote: "It's like we're about to close on a house and the realtor is trying to make us buy a new car as well," said Warren Schlichting, DISH senior vice president of programming. "Fox blacked out two of its news channels, using them as leverage to triple rates on sports and entertainment channels that are not in this contract." This service disruption comes despite DISH's offer of a short-term contract extension that would preserve the channels as the two parties continue to negotiate.
Fox News recently launched a website dedicated to trying to get annoyed Dish customers to contact Dish and complain. As with Dish's other feuds, content will likely be restored after the two sides reach a confidential agreement, with consumers seeing the resulting price hike sometime next year. As it stands, Dish has currently replaced Fox News with Glenn Beck's new channel The Blaze, and has replaced Fox Business with CNBC in the lineup. |
