| I was called I received calls from a Dish distributor. They were very rude when I pointed out I was on the DNC list. I went to Dish Network's web site's "contact us" to complain. I'll give them credit for responding to me. But, their attitude was that they have no control over their resellers.
I also filed a complaint with the FTC.

| Re: I was called It's not Dish Network, but a re-seller. I was getting daily calls from a heavily-accented call center. They would never give me a number to call back, and got a bit pissy if asked who they really were. My favorite question was to ask where they were calling from. They would usually answer "California" and my first response was "How's the weather in California?". After they answered, I'd ask which part of India California was in. They didn't like that.
I did pressure one or two callers to give me a real number and company name, but that number was never answered.
Even though it's a reseller, I still hold Dish responsible. They can put pressure on the reseller to cut the crap. I actually got ahold of someone at corporate who was concerned enough to give me fake credentials n case they called again so they could track the order.
I never bothered to reply (shame on me, but I'm not a customer and I'm not gonna do their job for free). Oddly, the calls have also stopped. Weird coincidence, that. I don't care if Dish Networks gets nailed to the wall or not, but I'd love to see their slimy reseller put right out of business.

| Stupid Resellers I too receive calls from their horrible resellers but I push the buttons to emulate a fax modem tone lol. It cut down on the calls, well except the "automated" ones that say I have placed an order and "My dish will be delivered today"... isn't that partially considered bait and switch. I call to say I don't have an order and they say "Well in that case we can offer JUNK"
Sorry those of you that have dish if I have offended you, I love my DirecTV.

| you don't know the difference.
A reseller rebrands the service and bills the customer for the service under their brand. They do not get a bill from Dish Network. Nor does the company promote the Dish Network brand.
An agent will sell the Dish Network brand, and install the services, they also make a commission off selling and installing. They do not bill the customer for services.
THAT is is the difference between the two. The same as for Radio Shack. Just because they sell Sprint and AT$T Wireless and activate the services and make $$ off each sale that does not make them a reseller. That is an Agent. They do not rebrand the services and bill the customer under Radio Shack.

| Dish calling and calling Dish (as well as DirecTV, Comcast and others) outsource a lot of their sales to contract companies who do nothing but use customer lists to call thousands of people a day. They sometimes have hundreds upon hundreds of operators in tiny cubicles all lined up in rows whose sole job is to get people to subscribe to any service they are contracting for. These companies are above reproach when it comes to courtesy and obeying the DO NOT CALL LIST. Hell they don't care. They only care about billing for sucessful sign ups. And even then they usually don't get paid until an installation is succesful.
The fact that Dish is the center of this doens't surprise me one bit because they are slowly dying and they know it.
In a few months it will be too late for Dish and I will be the first to dance on their grave when die the painful death they deserve. I may even send Charlie flowers.
And no I am not a former disgruntled employee. I did install for them as a contractor and I have to say that I have never worked for or with any other company that was as disorganized and out of control as they are.
I hate their business model, I hate their equipment, I hate their customer service, I hate their installation department and I hate their sales people. Gee what else is there.

Direct tv and dish merger? That may be cool the bandwidth to kill cable with hd channels. That may even give the room for east and west vers of all the main hd channels.

| Cable guy or trol Neither. I used to do contract work when I was in-between jobs and I have a very serious dis-taste for Dish Network. For the 5 years that I did Dish, cable and DirecTV I never had any problems except when workign with Dish. My real name is Larry and I would drive across the SF bay area to do a Dish install only to arrive and have the customer tell me they cancelled the day before. Or I'd drive 50 miles and they weren't home. I'd call on the phone and get "Oh is that today?" "They didn't tell me you were coming. I cant do it today because I'm at work."
None of that EVER happened with DirecTV. What's more Dish equipment is wayyy over engineered for something as simple as watching TV. I used to get service calls to go and teach people how to record a program. It was senseless.
So there you have it. The fact that I use weird Anon names is becaus ei don't need any body to knbow who I am. What difference would it make? And the word in front of the box is ANON: right? Am I right?
So... happy now? | |

None of that EVER happened with DirecTV. I worked for a home integration/security company for thirteen years which installed both - botched calls were about equal between the two, but the lynch-pin was when DirecTV tried to extort money from us for buying smart card readers which we used as part of our card access business.

How hard is: find show in guide, press select, choose record once, weekly, or whenever it comes on, and press select again. See satelliteguys.us or dbstalk.com to see which DVR reigns supreme.

| I have Dish..... Its through my ISP and I explained this to them. The caller promptly transferred me to a Dish representative who said they would remove me from the list or add me to a DNC or something to that effect. The calls stopped for a while but resumed again. I also get calls warning me that the warranty expired on my going on 6 year old car. I explained that I am an auto mechanic and did not want a warranty, I fix my own cars. Understanding these warranty's, I would never purchase one for myself. That did not help, still get calls. -- We learn through the exchange of information, tell me more...... | |
