When AT&T announced its acquisition of Dobson Communications last month, our readers were in agreement that this was a good thing. It allows cell phone users in many areas to obtain phone service without the roaming charges that were a problem in the past. The only question people had was when the changes would actually take place. The answer is soon. Over one a half million Dobson customers will be transitioned to AT&T in the next month. Starting December 9th, they can switch over to an AT&T plan (if they desire and at no additional cost) and can begin purchasing AT&T phones.

YES! I beat the death star!!

Got me a Blackberry Curve 8300 on Cell One two weeks ago, pre merger; their BB Personal plan was $5 a month lower than AT&T, plus a $20 voice plan the globe doesn't even offer!

Corporate Discount

I hope AT&T has a deal with my University like Cell One does. Right now we get a 17% corporate discount (changes based on how many students and staff sign up). It really helps cut down the bill a bit. I have three lines and am already looking at 200 less minutes per month, so I hope the price doesn't go up as well.

I hate to break it to you, but the globe is all about the bottom line, and less and less about consumer pricing. More than likely your bill will go up for less service (minutes). It's a damn shame that it's that way, but it's the reality of big business these days.

Re: Corporate Discount

If they did start charging more mid contract wouldn't that leave the door open to drop their service without the etf? I hope so I been looking for a reason to switch to either verizon or sprint as cellone really doesnt have that great of speeds for cellular broadband from what i have read.

AT&T will honor the current rate plans of Dobson customers. However, Dobson customers will have the opportunity to migrate to AT&T rates plans without activation or upgrade fees. Dobson customers who choose AT&T calling plans will also benefit from Rollover ® Minutes, a feature exclusive to AT&T. Dobson Mobile-to-Mobile customers will also be able to reach AT&T's 65.7 million wireless customers. AT&T customer contracts will not change.
Of course that doesn't mean you will be able to renew the contracts.

Damn, i wish tech had that nice of a deal with cellone, all i get is $3 off with tech adding $3 for a "billing fee"

so there's no point in even dealing with the university for cell one.

You will be able to keep your existing Cellular One number and contract pricing. Since Dobson's assets will be merged into AT&T, they will own that block of numbers now (as well as their towers).

iPhone

As Dobson Cellular Customers we can't necessarily all get the iPhone just yet.
Q. Can I buy an Apple iPhone?
A. AT&T will be selling the Apple iPhone in select areas during the holidays. In the coming months we will expand the availability of the iPhone throughout the CellularOne service areas that are now part of the new AT&T. Check with your local store, or att.com/wireless for availability.
