Echostar XI Successfully Launches
After Echostar II takes an interstellar dirt nap
by Karl Bode Wednesday 16-Jul-2008 tags: satellite · HDTV · Dish Network
After a botched satellite launch last March, things looked dire for Dish Network's HD lineup. They managed to overcome the lack of new capacity by playing public relations patty cake with their channel count last May, but with Echostar II biting the dust, they needed some help. They got it today with the announcement that Echostar XI successfully launched last night. Dish says they'll be adding 16 HD channels on August 1, fulfilling their promise to have more than 100HD channels available before the end of the year.

Unless you are being sarcastic, the Tennis channel has been in HD for a bit now.

well they're going to mirror regular lineups which are pitiful anyway. Besides I don't care as long as it's more channels that fill up my whole widescreen!

Good news for Dish!

At least this hopefully means we'll see more HD channels from them!

good launch.

too bad they did lose the echostar 2 sat. but they have a powerful one up there now. Tho it will take about 4 months before they flip the switch on it so they still have some lose maybe?

Time to do some trvo and see where the sat is at now . Some how i missed this launch some how.

Re: good launch.

Same here. Usually when E* or DirecTV launch a new sat, it's pretty big news... I don't know how I missed this one... lol.

Sea Launch

The guys at Sea Launch are really good. They have a great record as far as successful launches.

@ssa.gov

Do you need to reaim your dish?

Do you need to re-aim your dish at the new satellite?
Or does the dish pickup from 2 satellites at the same time?

Confused cable user....

Re: Do you need to reaim your dish?

I really doubt all Dish users will have to change their dish setup. They are most likely just using the same orbit and position, and will work their tech magic to make the satellite change as seamless as possible to all.
