| EXACTLY what I was thinking/hoping excpept I envisioning Las Vegas, NV instead of Naples, FL.
besides the credit crunch, of course, why shouldn't Verizon buy Embarq? with VZW's upcoming purchase of Alltel, they've shown that they want to become as large as the government will allow. And yes I know that wireless division is separate from the landline division, but they're both greedy all the same.

Increasing their wired coverage is for their major profit center now. Sorry, I seriously doubt your dream will come true. -- If only the Verizon CSRs worked this well.

1 edit | Please buy them.....someone. In FL, these guys are the worst. Service & price.
I hear so much of one telco buying another. Last year it was TWTC and Qwest. Now it is Level3 and TWTC. It will be all one big telco in the end...just like it started.
To me it would make good sense for L3 to buy them so they get a bigger market share on the west coast of FL.
I hope not VZ...just got too big.

| Re: Please buy them.....someone. My comments were not from a consumer side but a business. Half of my remote sites are in Embarq area and the service we get wtih them is less than to be desired. In one case I have a 6 node MPLS with them and they have all the connections going back to one core because they cant get it to work when they plug a site into another core. Not good. I have gotten DSL from them a couple of times for some events and they do know what they are doing there. | |

| crazy idea or 2 Get this. What if a company like Clearwire had the capital for the buyout. Use the existing backbone then add towers where needed to get full coverage. CLEARBARQ?
Ok, here's another one. A japanese company such as KDDI who along with the 10mbps offers 100mbps symmetrical! Sure it would take awhile but they have proven they got their s@%&@ together.

| Why can't DSL turn profits? What's the problem? Landline DSL, when done properly, is superior to cable and can be attractively priced/tiered. The phone part is another matter, but naked DSL? What is it about increasing infrastructure (financed by reduced rates/tiers) that's not doable?
Can someone with more knowledge explain it to me? You offer up tiers from 768 to whatever and undercut cable at every turn. In this economy a naked 768 tier at, say, $19.95? What's not to like when people are cutting costs everywhere? --

| Re: Why can't DSL turn profits? Windstream has been offering a naked DSL type service called "Greenstreak". Its basically DSL, with free incoming calls, and .10/min outgoing local calls, along with 911 access. Its about 20-25$ cheaper per month than a tradition al land line with DSL. If Windstream can buy out EMBARQ, than expect to have this service available to you. | |

@verizon.com | verizon can make a profit It isn't that Verizon doesn't want landlines, they just don't want rural copper landlines!!!! They want to overlay all highly people concetrated areas where they can affordably lay fiber to the premise. And dump as much copper as possible.
