Local telecommunication provider Embarq Corp. plans to unveil its new technology center today in Gardner, severing one of its last ties to former parent Sprint Nextel Corp.

The 13,500-square-foot center replaces a series of smaller labs on Sprint Nextel's campus in Overland Park that totaled 8,000 square feet. Sprint Nextel spun off Embarq, its former local division, last May.

Embarq will use the center to develop and work out the bugs in new equipment and technology before adding it to the network or providing it to customers, said John Zeigler, who will oversee the lab.
