Ericsson Buys Microsoft's IPTV Software Platform So Microsoft Can Focus Solely on the Xbox Tuesday Apr 09 2013 08:32 EDT Ericsson has announced that the company will be buying Microsoft's Mediaroom IPTV platform, which powers the TV efforts of numerous companies including AT&T U-Verse. According to Ericsson the deal should close during the latter half of 2013, and the acquisition nets Ericsson more than 25% of the IPTV platform market. In a blog post, Microsoft proclaims that the deal " allows Microsoft to commit 100 percent of its focus on consumer TV strategy with Xbox" (and of course stop lending competitors a hand). The company's next Xbox is expected to be announced in May and launched in November, and is rumored to come in two flavors -- one being a less expensive version that solely focuses on streaming video. |

Re: Thats Justthey sold the platform. The xBox was already in use as a STB by many carriers and could still be used as such.

xbox?xbox has game written all over it. There is a large segment of the population that will never touch an xbox just due to that. Perhaps they can relabel it for sale to other folks.
