Everest Broadband Gets Surewest Name
Kansas City residents to get taste of 50Mbps fiber...
Last December, Sacramento-based SureWest Communications announced plans to acquire Kansas City-based Everest Broadband for $173 million. Actual integration was largely finished last February, but Everest Broadband customers didn't officially take on the Surewest brand name until today. According to a statement by the company, they'll be offering Kansas City locals 18 new HD channels within the next thirty days. The company says they'll also be expanding their service to 10,000 new customers, 8,000 of which will have access to faster 50Mbps fiber speeds.

The envy for a decade

I remember crusing along at 3Mb with Cox@Home while Winfirst offered 10/10 in Sacramento. Good to see that they're growing.

Re: The envy for a decade

I got it in 1997 when it was first deployed here...3000/300. I actually still have my original install disc (with the @Home rebranded IE and Netscape browsers). The CD sleeve has all my original hostname and static IP address info.

According to the gospel that is Wikipedia there was:

AT&T@Home (formerly TCI@Home before the purchase of TCI by AT&T)
Charter@Home
Cogeco@Home
Comcast@Home
Cox@Home
Rogers@Home
Shaw@Home
Optus@Home

AT&T Broadband was bought up by Comcast long after @Home was dead.

New name same people?

I hope so anyway. They've been including the Surewest name in their ads here for a while now.

Surewest - SureCaps

Are the kansas city subs going to get caps like the californians do? rediculously low traffic caps for fibre.

Re: Surewest - SureCaps

The latest trend--- Surewest website does it too, just like AT&T, Cox, etc etc is they make you check for availability before they let you view pricing, terms, etc

It's annoying as hell. You'd think they don't want people to know their pricing and terms--- they might shop around!

(Actually I think that's the point.... Keep it all secret unless you're in the ordering process.)

I hope not, we have a 200Mbps fiber line with EverestKC or now Surewest at work, and we do about 20-30TB of traffic every month, and we are about to upgraded it to.

What do you pay a month for that? being a biz class connection they probably wont cap you.
200mbps could make a NICE seedbox

I have no idea how much we pay for it, we also have a 250Mbps ATT fiber line and the Everest line beats it in every way.
And it would make for a nice seedbox connecetion

From what I've heard they don't cap the 20/20 and 50/50 connections. Only 10/10 and below.

Capped as bad as TW

Main reason I'm not getting Surewest fiber out here in Sacramento is the caps. Even without torrenting I can burn through 100GB in a few weeks for video production. They're good if you want a super fast connection to send a few pictures to grandma or read the news a few dozen times, but if you want to do anything even close to real usage, youtube and all, you'll get nerfed damn quick.
