By Jon Shirek FBI agents and Atlanta police confiscated millions of dollars worth of bootlegged DVDs and CDs at two warehouses in southwest Atlanta Thursday.
Officials destroyed all of the merchandise seized. The raid was part of an investigation that started in February. The raid focused on two warehouses full of hundreds of thousands of counterfeit music CDs and DVDs.
The two unmarked warehouses, located on the citys west end, had been opened to the public, allowing anyone to enter and buy the bootlegged materials for just a few dollars, officials said.
If you wanted to buy one copy of the Passion of the Christ for yourself, you could come here and buy it. If you wanted to buy 150 copies of Van Helsing to take back and sell at a flea market in Miami, you could also come here and buy that as well, said FBI Agent Steve Lazarus.
Investigators have traced the music and movies sold out of the two warehouses to retailers and flea markets in 10 southeastern states.
