The FCC stated on Friday they would be
delaying their decision to grant Dish a necessary spectrum condition waiver, required for the company's planned LTE network. The FCC didn't cite reasons for the delay, but stated they would likely have a decision on the waiver by the end of the year. Dish Chair Charlie Egen recently stated they had roughly a
80% chance of success in getting the network built, a number they stated would decline if the FCC delayed their decision. The FCC may be waiting for the political fallout from LightSquared to cool down a bit -- and will likely ultimately grant the waiver given that unlike LightSquared, Dish's spectrum selection won't cause problems for GPS. The LTE Advanced equipment for its S-band spectrum Dish plans to use likely won't even be available until 2015 -- meaning the delay won't be fatal.
