FCC Launches New Broadband Plan Blog
Blair Levin leads 'assault of sustained thinking...'
by Karl Bode Tuesday 18-Aug-2009 tags: legal · fcc · coverage · business · Politics
The government continues to promise they'll make the development of our national broadband plan a transparent process, though as we noted last week there are some problems that need addressing. While it won't solve any of them, this week the FCC launched a new blog that will discuss their progress during the remaining 183 days of the plan's development. The blog so far has just two posts; one each by FCC boss Julius Genachowski and broadband plan director Blair Levin. According to Levin, the agency is "leading an assault of sustained thinking by the entire FCC on the stubborn problem of bringing broadband to unserved and underserved areas." While the ratio of platitudes to actual plan specifics remains heavily lopsided, hopefully that changes in coming months. Update: The FCC also popped up on Twitter today for the first time.

FCC website is retro

The FCC's website still looks Netscape 4.0 compatible (not a bad thing, upgrading it just uses more of your tax payer dollars), and its DB queries feel like they are running on a Pentium Pro (a bad thing).

current look is circa 2002 »web.archive.org/web/200201242020···fcc.gov/

Haha, I like how they put the word "BETA" up there.

Wow... that really brings up some nostalgia. Jeez, what an old-school website. If I didn't remember how intensely irritating website navigation was back in the day I'd actually give them points for the warm fuzzy feeling of remembering the past.
