FCC Said to Approve SoftBank, Sprint Deal
Sprint's Plan Gets Closer To Being Finalized
FCC insiders tell Bloomberg that two of the agency's three commissioners have voted to approve the deal, and a full vote is expected to see majority approval. The vote should bring to a close one of the sillier telecom dramas in recent memory, with Dish ultimately forcing Sprint to pay significantly more for Clearwire -- and SoftBank to pay significantly more for Sprint. Sprint shareholders approved the deal back on June 25, while regulators also cleared the deal for any potential security issues caused by foreign ownership. The odd man out is Dish, who may turn to acquiring T-Mobile -- or could back away from their LTE plan entirely.

Dish please do not buy T-Mob

I just switched from Verizon to T-Mobile, TMob is really getting good in NJ. Almost everyone I go in NJ I am on LTE and the places I am not their HSPA 4G network is really good. Dish will ruin this company.

T-Mo has some coverage holes in NYC but I'm happy with them too. I'm only using HSPA though.

You're correct. Most people in rural areas will not have T-Mobile coverage. This is no secret.

Yes I know but I rarely go into any Rural areas and if I do my iPhone 5 is unlocked so if I stay in a rural area for a few days I will I will use a local GSM carrier or AT&T.

It will be interesting to see what DT does. Now that it could be harder to compete with SoftSprint, they may want to try dumping Tmob for less than ATT bid. Some talking heads think DT will try to entice a bidding war between Dish and Sprint and also seek a couple CableCos. Dish bid may not succeed given same reasons Sprint didn't want them, but the Feds may not let Sprint buy Tmob, not wanting a big 3 unless market proves it can't support 4 majors. Sprint could more realistically acquire Tmob (if on the cheap) in about 5 years, maybe less if Feds let them but look at what is happening with airline industry consolidation.

From Dish's perspective, Tmob may be it's best option...

T-Mobile would be smart just to roll with their prepaid services and let Spent/Softbank worry about the bad debit with unpaid bills on contracts. TMO is bringing cash on their prepaid and bringing in customers. The best part of TMO is the US based call centers unlike Spent and will still keep those calls going else where- more likely back to Japan now.

I don't know who or what Spent is, but I can assure you from recent experience that T-Mobile has call centers not based in North America.

Sprint front facing call centers appear to be based in US...

I always get an American when I call Sprint... not sure if it was always like this, but for the 2 years I've had them I have never not gotten an American.

I have always had CS based in the US for the last 4+ years. It wasn't that long ago that I contacted Business CS a couple times a few weeks apart about an issue. Ended up getting the same guy and he actually remembered talking with me the first time. I have never had an experience where I got the same person when calling CS at a large corporation.

Very nice article.. Stock prices are going up. The influx of money and its volume of spectrum. Softbank maybe the winner.
I just dumped VZ wireless due to cost. VZ Cell/LTE is king around here. I hope the roll of the dice pays off.
