Looks like Martin is trying to give AT&T a leg up on the auction of 700Mhz spectrum by handing over to them almost all the 700Mhz spectrum already out there. And AT&T didn't have to bid for this spectrum. They just bought it from Aloha. If they then get the C Block 700Mhz spectrum in the auction, then AT&T would control most of the best bandwidth in the US.

In my opinion this is due in large part to the current debate over granting AT&T immunity. I've always felt that if immunity isn't granted the government would find another way to cover AT&T's costs (and let them settle everything out of court). This could be at least part of what I expected to happen.

| Re: Corruption is obvious It's funny, speaking of $$, Chairman Martin and the FCC are on a regulatory crusade against the cable industry, which in comparison to the phone industry is competitive, yet continue to deregulate the AT&T, Verizon and the rest of the bells.
Meanwhile the telcos use this deregulation to fleece consumers (by charging for services like call waiting, which costs the phone companies virtually nothing) and exploit their monopoly powers. That is the real scandal, someone should look into that.
