FTC Broadband Workshop: All Talk? Only one consumer advocate, discussion stuck on neutrality, regulation... The FTC this week held a two day workshop on broadband, aimed at discussing network neutrality, competition and consumer protection issues. We're still working our way through the video and transcripts of the panels, but it's pretty clear discussions never veered far from network neutrality and the endless debate over deregulation of the industry. Public Knowledge's Harold Feld laments over at his blog that consumers are lost in these debates, with only one real consumer advocate present on the "consumer protection panel." In short: people talked, taxpayer money was spent and nothing changed.

seems that net neutrality is a big deal, but if public sentiment heads towards serious broadband access for everyone that incumbents are in real trouble. net neutrality = potential double dipping, but access for all could mean loss of initial dipping.

| | FTC Broadband Workshop? anyone who expects the FTC to be proactive for the consumer is a dreamer. they talk the talk but that's about it. historically they are big in the discussion (workshop) department but will pass the ball when it comes to any enforcement or regulatory action. | |

......since they have virtually no power to change anything concerning broadband except in advertising. All the real power is with the FCC. -- -- My BLOG My Web Page
